Local organization to host “Bocce Night”

The Ladies Auxiliary of UNICO National, Scranton Chapter is hosting its annual Bocce Night at the Victor Alfieri Club on Friday, June 3,  at 5 p.m.  Adults are $20 per person, and children are $10 per person.  A picnic dinner will be provided by the Victor Alfieri Society with cash bar.

“The event is not a tournament—it is a fun night of Bocce.  If you don’t know how to play, we will teach you” says Gayle DeAntona, Ladies Auxiliary president.

Committee Finalizes Plans for 10th Annual Nancy McCormick Volleyball Tournament

Committee members met recently to finalize plans for the 10th Annual Nancy McCormick Volleyball Tournament that will take place on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at Dunmore High School.

The tournament is hosted each year at Dunmore High School during Memorial Day Weekend by a group of family and friends of the late Nancy McCormick.  Nancy was a teacher, loving wife, and mother of five who died from colon cancer.

A portion of proceeds from the tournament supports the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute’s Patient Navigation Program. The Patient Navigation Program helps low income, uninsured, and underinsured individuals in northeast Pennsylvania receive necessary breast, cervical, and colon cancer screenings.

To date, the tournament has raised approximately $30,500 for the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute.  The Cancer Institute invests 100% of its resources locally.

Neil Armstrong School receives Certificate of Recognition

The Lackawanna County Commissioners presented a Certificate of Recognition to the staff and students at Neil Armstrong School in Scranton for their support of Law Enforcement Awareness Day.

This event honors the dedication and commitment of public safety personnel in their mission to protect and defend the residents of both the City of Scranton and Lackawanna County.
