Allied’s Annual Breakfast with Santa

The Allied Volunteers hosted their annual Breakfast With Santa in the Graff Community Room, Luger Building, at Allied Services.

Children and adults enjoyed a full breakfast with Christmas music. Each child received a coloring book with crayons, a goody bag and personal picture time with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Dunmore Senior Center in Need of Volunteers

The Dunmore Senior Center is in need of volunteers for clerical and kitchen duties.

If anyone is interested, please stop by or call the Center at 570-207-2662.

 

“We want to hear from anyone out there,” Senior Center Executive Director Alison Boga said. “If there is a particular speaker or activity that you would like to see offered at the Center please let us know.”

Boga said the Center’s friends at Northeast PA AARP will be having a Pasta Dinner Sunday, March 18, at the Dunmore Senior Center.

“Please come out and support this wonderful organization.”

Cawley Physical Therapy Rehabilitation will be at the Center Tuesday, March 13, at 10:15 a.m. for a workshop on back pain and sciatica. “If you are interested in attending, please call the Center,” Boga said.

Boga said Hospice of the Sacred Heart will be at the Center Monday, March 19, to go over its upcoming workshop and series.

The Dunmore Senior Center congratulates its Cold Cash January and February winners: Catherine Belles (first), Maria Ragnacci (second), Marie Hoffman (third), MaryAnn Germano (first), Elaine Ruchak (second) and Jim Connor (third).

Boga announced the Dunmore Senior Center will be closed March 30 for Good Friday.

The Dunmore Senior Center remaining winter closure policy is such: if the Dunmore School District is closed, the Dunmore Senior Center will also be closed. If the Dunmore School District is running on a delay, the Dunmore Senior Center will be open on a delayed opening schedule (9 a.m.).

Other activities at the Dunmore Senior Center this month include bingo, learn to knit, ballroom dancing, sketching and oil painting, crochet, gentle yoga, Sketching with Gretchen, Tai Chi, pinochle after lunch, iPad Cafe, silver flow yoga, mahjong, VNA blood pressure screening, Honor our Vets, ice cream social, Why Butterflies Matter, garden planning, Sacred Heart workshops, Saint Patrick’s Day, nutrition and the importance of a balanced diet, Red Cross and birthday party.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics offered 18 health tips for eating right in 2018. Those tips are: eat breakfast, make half your plate fruits and vegetables, watch portion sizes, be active, fix healthy snacks, get to know food labels, consult a registered dietician nutritionist, follow food safety guidelines, drink more water, get cooking, dine out without ditching your goals, enact family meal time, banish brown bag boredom, explore new foods and flavors, eat seafood twice a week, cut back on added sugars, experiment with more plant-based meals, make an effort to reduce food waste.

Celebration to Honor “Man of the Year”

The Ancient Order of Hibernians will hold a party for the Paul “Hook” O’Malley Man of the Year Award in honor of Kevin Shaughnessy on Thursday, March 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Fiorelli Catering, 1501 Main St., Peckville.
