Raising the Italian flag with great pride on Courthouse Square

This Columbus expedition produced the beginning of the colonization and great migrations of people from the countries of Western Europe. Many Italian organizations of Lackawanna County were present, and a representative from each group was given the opportunity to present about their organization, customs and what this Federal holiday means to them.

UNICO Christopher Columbus Coloring Contest winners

downloadsDunmore’s Keystone UNICO recently announced the winners of their Christopher Columbus Second Grade Coloring Contest in Dunmore.

Local printer and Keystone UNICO Member, James Mack, is chairman of this annual event. Second grade students at the Dunmore Elementary Center and Saint Mary’s Parochial School were given a picture of Christopher Columbus to color on their own at school.

Each art work was then graded and a student from each of the six second grades was chosen as the winning artist.

Mr. Mack then framed each winning entry and attached a $25 gift card to the frame. The winners were then announced and presented with their prizes in the presence and with the applause of their second grade peers and teachers.
