Dunmoreans honored with 2016 Sage Awards

Various Dunmore businesses and organizations were honored when the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of the 2016 SAGE Awards (Scranton Awards for Growth and Excellence), which honor outstanding local businesses for their talent, creativity, and innovation. The winner of each award category was publicly announced at The Chamber Gala in November at The Theater at North.

More than 100 applications were received. A group of community leaders and professionals teamed up to review applications and select finalists. The Chamber is proud to honor businesses that are making valuable contributions to the region and contributing to our overall quality of life.

This year’s winner from the borough of Dunmore included:

  • DePietro’s Pharmacy – Best Practices in Community Involvement
  • The Greater Scranton YMCA – Non-Profit Organization of the Year
  • Marywood University’s Learning Commons, Pride & Progress – New Construction.

2015 SAGE Award Finalists Announced

Dunmore businesses including Fidelity Deposit and Discount Bank and DePietro’s Hometown Pharmacy are among the finalists for the 2015 SAGE Awards (Scranton Awards for Growth and Excellence) to be presented  by the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce and MetroAction. The SAGE Awards honor outstanding local businesses for their talent, creativity and innovation. The winners will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Chamber Gala, held at the Mellow Theater at Lackawanna College.

More than 100 applications were received for this year’s awards.  A group of more than 40 community leaders and professionals teamed up to review applications and select finalists. The Chamber and MetroAction are proud to honor businesses that are making valuable contributions to the region and contributing to our overall quality of life.  

The finalists for Best Practices in Community Involvement are Benco Dental Company, Fidelity Deposit and Discount Bank and Toyota of Scranton

The finalists for Best Practices in Customer Service are DePietro’s Hometown Pharmacy, Northeast Title & Tag, Inc. and Toyota of Scranton

The finalists for Best Practices in Marketing and Communications are Design Done Right, Graham Public Relations and Advertising, LLC and Posture Interactive.

The finalists for Business of the Year are DePietro’s Hometown Pharmacy, NET Federal Credit Union and New York Life Insurance Co.

The finalists for Healthy Workplace of the Year are Dempsey Uniform and Linen Supply, Metropolitan Life Insurance and TMG Health.

The finalists for Hometown Star are Lackawanna Heritage Valley for “Heritage Explorer Bike Tour & Festival,” NAMI PA Scranton Area Chapter for “Evening of Hope” and Toyota of Scranton for “Celebrating Heroes Day.”

The finalists for New and Emerging Business of the Year are Design-a-card.org. Graham Public Relations and Advertising, LLC and Japhy Creative.

The finalists for Non-Profit Organization of the Year are The Center for Independent Living, the Greater Scranton YMCA and NAMI PA Scranton Area Chapter

The finalists for Pride and Progress: Exterior Renovations are Geisinger-Community Medical Center for the 1800 block of Mulberry Street, Penn State Worthington/Scranton for their Athletic Fields and United Neighborhood Centers for Cedar Point Apartments.

The finalists for Pride and Progress: Interior Renovations are Classic Properties for 324 State St., Clarks Summit, Geisinger-Community Medical Center for their Multi-Specialty Clinics and Intensive Care Units and the University of Scranton for the Quincy Avenue Apartments and Learning Center.

The finalists for Pride and Progress: New Construction are Geisinger-Community Medical Center for the 1800 block of Mulberry Street, United Neighborhood Centers for Cedar Point Apartments and the University of Scranton for Edward R. Leahy Jr. Hall

The finalists for Small Business of the Year are 13 Olives, MCR Productions and the Pine Hills Country Club.

The finalists for Excellence in Leadership are the Fidelity Deposit and Discount Bank, Lackawanna College and NBT Bank.

The finalists for Woman of Excellence are Karen Clifford of TR Technology Solutions, Natalie Gelb of Lackawanna Heritage Valley and Jill Murray, Ph.D of Lackawanna College.

Emcee for 2015 Chamber Gala Announced

Conor O’Brien will be the emcee for the 2015 Chamber Gala and SAGE Award presentation.

The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce announced that Scranton Fringe Festival co-founder and past SAGE Award recipient Conor O’Brien will be the emcee for the 2015 Chamber Gala and SAGE Award presentation. The event will be held from 5:30-9 p.m.on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at The Theater at Lackawanna College.

O’Brien is known locally as an actor, playwright and arts professional. He received the 2011 SAGE Award for young entrepreneur of the year. He was recognized for his work with The Vintage, a performing arts space in downtown Scranton that operated from January 2009 through September 2014. O’Brien is also the co-founder and current executive director of the Scranton Fringe Festival, which celebrated its inaugural year in 2015.

“To be a part of this year’s SAGE Awards as host is a real pleasure,” O’Brien said. “I am incredibly proud of this region, and I am incredibly grateful to all the individuals and businesses that have afforded me so many opportunities. Any way I can be a part of a celebration of this community is really exciting.”

O’Brien also won the Pittsburgh Fringe Festival’s 2014 award for best actor for his role in “The Darling Core” — a play he also co-wrote. He will reprise that in 2016 when “The Darling Core” makes its debut in New York City. He has also performed in Philadelphia, Kansas City and other areas throughout the Northeast Pennsylvania..
