Sherwood Park Spring Carnival
The Sherwood Youth Association will host its annual spring carnival Tuesday, April 30, through Saturday, May 4, at Sherwood Park in Dunmore. There will rides, games, food and fun compliments of Midway by A.E.B Amusement.
On Tuesday and Thursday nights and Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., there will be a $15 wristband special.
DCCHS Class Reunion
Dunmore Central Catholic High School (DCCHS) Class of 1969 is planning a 50th Class Reunion to be held on Saturday, Sept 28, 2019 at La Buona Vita, 200 Reilly Street, Dunmore. Marywood Book Sale
Marywood University continues to promote books and reading through its biannual book swap and sale. The University’s Spring Book Swap and Sale will take place in the Learning Commons Lobby from Monday, May 6, through Thursday, May 9. From Monday through Wednesday, the Book Swap and Sale will take place from 8 a.m. – midnight, and from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., on Thursday, May 9. Proceeds from Tuesday’s sale will benefit the English Department Club. This event is free and open to the public.
A wide selection of titles and genres will be available. The book swap and sale is sponsored by the English Club and Library Services. Book donations are being received on the first floor of the Learning Commons. Actors Circle Presents Pygmalion
Actors Circle continues with Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw on May 2, 3, 4 and 5, with performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission; $10 seniors, and $8 students. Riverfest 2019
On Saturday, May 11, paddlers will take to the water and revelers will fill the banks of the Lackawanna River for RiverFest draws the community outdoors after the long winter to celebrate the Valley and the River that runs through it. Activities include a Canoe-A-Thon and Duck-A-Thon. Sponsorships are welcome, as well as volunteers for activities running from 8 a.m.l to 6 p.m.

Catholic Choral Society Spring Concerts
The annual spring concerts of the Catholic Choral Society of Scranton will be presented on Friday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton, and on Sunday evening, May 19 at 7 p.m.. at St. Ignatius Church, 339 N. Maple St., Kingston.
At Holy Rosary Church, the Choral Society will host the Christ the King Youth Choir under the direction of Mary Edmunds and Stacey Whitaker. At St. Ignatius Church in Kingston, the Choral Society will host the Wyoming Valley Barbershop Harmony Chorus directed by Phil Brown and Justin Davis.
The Catholic Choral Society, marking its 70th season, is composed of 50 members from Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wayne, Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties.
Board members assisting co-presidents Brenda Grunza, Nicholson, and Dr. Tom Rittenhouse, Clarks Summit, in arranging the concert include: Nancy Flannery, Kingston; Sheila O’Brien, Dunmore; Lois Ostrowski, Pittston and Kate Conaboy, Archbald.
Director of the Catholic Choral Society is Ann Manganello, Exeter and the accompanist is Jean Shields, Scranton.

Actors Circle Presents “Tuesdays with Morrie”
The final show of Actors Circle’s 37th season will be Tuesdays with Morrie by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom, based on the book by Mitch Albom.
Directed by Kaylah Hodgins, the show will be presented May 30 and 31 and June 1, 2, 6, 7, 8 and 9 at Providence Playhouse, 1256 Providence Road, Scranton. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

The cast includes Scott Rave and Bob Taylor. Tuesdays With Morrie is the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens to catch Morrie’s appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Mitch is reunited with Morrie, and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life.
Penn State Night Dinner
The Greater Scranton Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association has announced that the annual “Penn State Night” dinner will be held on Wednesday, May 22.
Featured speaker will be Jay Paterno, former Penn State quarterback and football coach. Alumnus of the Year is Donnie Collins, Times-Tribune sportswriter and Penn State beat reporter.
Dinner is at Fiorelli’s, Peckville. Doors open at 6 p.m. and program begins at 7:30.p.m. Tickets are $50 and available by calling 570-963-2537.
Now the year is 2018, and some things have changed. But over the past 60 years, the mission of the Sherwood Youth Association has remained the same – to keep the children playing.

Marywood University’s Athletics department will hold a Competitive Swimming Skills Clinic on Saturday, Aug. 18, and Sunday, Aug. 19, in the Aquatics Center at the Center for Athletics and Wellness. The morning sessions, for ages 7-11, will run from 9 a.m. to noon; and the afternoon sessions, ages 12-18, will run from 1-4 p.m. The cost for a single day is $50, or $90 for both days, and includes a T-shirt and swim cap.
