Friends of the Poor “Clothes Line for Men” serves 1000th client

The Friends of the Poor outfitted Shelton Miles, back row, center, as its 1000th client for re-entry into the workforce.  The organization is operating its Clothes Line For Men program out of its new location on 1214 Linden St., Scranton.  The structure was donated to the agency by the University of Scranton.

Allied Services to host annual Breakfast with Santa

Allied Volunteers are offering their annual Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 10, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Graff Community Room at Allied Services.  The all-you-can-eat breakfast will include eggs, french toast, sausage, cereal, coffee, tea and juice while Christmas music plays throughout.

Santa will make his appearance and all will have the opportunity to sit with Santa and receive a gift.  Be sure to bring your camera. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children.  Reservations are a must and can be made by contacting P.J. Kilvitis at 570-348-1398.

Dunmoreans honored with 2016 Sage Awards

Various Dunmore businesses and organizations were honored when the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of the 2016 SAGE Awards (Scranton Awards for Growth and Excellence), which honor outstanding local businesses for their talent, creativity, and innovation. The winner of each award category was publicly announced at The Chamber Gala in November at The Theater at North.

More than 100 applications were received. A group of community leaders and professionals teamed up to review applications and select finalists. The Chamber is proud to honor businesses that are making valuable contributions to the region and contributing to our overall quality of life.

This year’s winner from the borough of Dunmore included:

  • DePietro’s Pharmacy – Best Practices in Community Involvement
  • The Greater Scranton YMCA – Non-Profit Organization of the Year
  • Marywood University’s Learning Commons, Pride & Progress – New Construction.
