Annual Columbus Day Coloring Contest Winners Recognized

Dunmore’s Keystone Chapter UNICO National recently conducted its annual Columbus Day Coloring Contest for second grade students at the Dunmore Elementary Center and Saint Mary of Mount Carmel School. The winner from each of the six second grade classes received a $25 Walmart Gift Card and their winning drawings professionally framed.

FNCB Celebrates Grand Opening of New Community Office Building

FNCB Bank recently celebrated the official grand opening of its new full-service community office at 100 South Blakely St. in Dunmore with a ribbon cutting.

As part of the “Dunmore Campus” revitalization project and after 109 years of operating at 102 East Drinker St., Dunmore, FNCB Bank constructed a brand-new community office across the street on the site of the Bank’s drive-thru.

The new $2.4 million dollar location features parking, a bright open floor plan with an FNCB Cafe, four large television screens with news and weather feeds, a hi-resolution exterior digital sign that we encourage non-profits to post messages on and cash recyclers to speed customer transactions.

In addition to the construction of the new bank, the former bank building has been transformed into class-A office space for the Bank’s commercial and retail banking teams.

The new Dunmore office lobby is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, the drive-thru is open Monday – Thursday 8 am – 5pm; Friday 8 am – 6pm; and Saturday 9 a.m. to noon.

Artist of the Month: Jan Lauer

Jan Lauer is shown with some of her newest paintings.

I started coming to the painting classes at the Dunmore Activity Hub shortly after returning to Scranton in August, 2010.

I love the class. Our instructor, Jill Swersie, is very talented and patiently shares her expertise and suggestions. The class is like a family, a special community that encourages and provides support. I am always inspired by the wonderful paintings I see others working on.

I enjoyed drawing as a teenager and dabbled a bit with watercolors and acrylics over the years, but never used oils until I started coming to this class. I love the brilliance and depth of color of oil paints.

I like to try painting different subjects, often based on a photograph I’ve taken or an illustration I’ve seen in a book or magazine.

I have sold some paintings, and given some to family and friends as gifts, but I also have them hanging in every room of my house where there is never enough wall space!
