UNICO Awards Scholarships to High School Seniors

Dunmore’s Keystone Chapter UNICO awarded two  Scholarships at their May meeting. These awards are based on scholarship with an emphasis on volunteerism.  The motto of UNICO is “Service Above Self”. Recipients are presented with Scholastic-Service Certificates and awarded $1,000 towards their higher education.

Holy Cross High School Senior Harleigh Davis is the daughter of George and Deborah Davis.  She is an Immaculate Heart of Mary Scholar, the recipient of the President’s Volunteer Award, the Bishop’s Youth Award, has earned the silver medal in mathematics and is a participant in the Diocesan Scholars Program.  Harleigh is a graduate of Leadership Lackawanna, volunteering with non-profits and doing community service, as well as volunteering over 900 hours at Mountain View Care Center. She will attend The Rochester Institute of Technology majoring in Computer Science.

Dunmore High School Senior Brian McKitish is the son of Gene and Wendy McKitish.  He is an honor student, a member of the golf team and President of the Service Club.  Brian has demonstrated true commitment to service by participating in all club sponsored opportunities, in addition to his own volunteering.  He demonstrates the importance of giving without expecting anything in return, the true meaning of service. Brian will attend Drexel University majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Aeronautical Engineering.

 

Lions Club Awards Scholarships to Dunmore Students

lionsThe Dunmore Lions Club recently held its 37th annual Scholarship Award Banquet at  La Buona Vita Restaurant.

Remarks were offered by Margaret Hart, vice principal at Dunmore High School, and Alexa Schoenberg guidance counselor at Holy Cross High School. Presentation of awards was made by Lion president James Aita and committee cochairmen Lion Sam Sebastianelli and Lion James Colangelo. Lion Michael Colangelo offered Invocation and Lion Anthony DeSantis served as toastmaster and commented:  “They and past award recipients demonstrate the outstanding traits necessary to receive Lions awards. All recipients have shown exemplary leadership. They’re all amazing students.”

DHS Lions

Mark Finan of Dunmore High School was honored with a Penn State scholarship. Also honored with monetary gifts were: Dunmore High School Boy Scholar/Athlete Nathan Fangio and DHS Girl Scholar /Athlete- Gillian Coar.

Jared Griffin of Holy Cross High School received another Penn State scholarship. Holy Cross High School Boy Scholar/Athlete Carson Cacioppo and Holy Cross Girl Scholar/Athlete Jillian Warabak were awarded monetary gifts as well.
