UNICO Awards Scholarships to Area High School Seniors

Dunmore’s Keystone UNICO conducted its annual May Scholarship Awards Program at La Buona Vita.

Awardee Coleen Brown represented Dunmore High School. She plans to major in nursing at West Chester University. Each awardee receives $1,000 and a Keystone UNICO Award Certificate.

Awardee Gianna Calciano represented Holy Cross High School. Gianna will major in mechanical engineering at Loyola University of Baltimore. As a service organization, Keystone Chapter UNICO places an emphasis on choosing scholarship awardees who have service hours, a high GPA, high moral character, and acceptance into a school of higher education.

The Purple Club of the University of Scranton meets to award scholarships to five local students attending the University of Scranton.

Dunmore Lions Club Hosts Annual Benefit Magic Show

Dunmore Lions Club held its annual benefit show featuring the “Magic of Damian,” Pennsylvania’s foremost magician, at Saint Mary of Mount Carmel, Dunmore. This marks the 24th consecutive year the Lions have featured Damian at Dunmore Elementary schools.

All proceeds this year will be utilized for scholarships to aid in college expenses for Dunmore and Holy Cross High Schools. The lions have been serving the community of Dunmore since 1952.
