UNICO Sunday Bake Sale raises over $2,000

Dunmore’s Keystone Chapter UNICO sponsored the Sunday Bake Sale Stand at Saint Joseph’s Festival.  This year they raised over $2,000 with their fresh baked goods prepared by Keystone UNICO members and friends.

UNICO hosts August picnic, welcomes new member

Dunmore’s Keystone UNICO conducted its August picnic at the Arcaro and Genell Bocce Courts.  Frankie Gervasi provided the entertainment and Arcaro & Genell Restaurant provided the menu.  Another highlight was the induction of Marie Merkel as a new member.

Keystone Chapter UNICO presents scholarships to local students

Keystone Chapter UNICO recently awarded three scholarships, including two Piccolo Scholarships which are awarded to a male and a female graduating high school student athlete of Italian American heritage who is going to pursue higher education. 

Further requirements include academic achievement, community service and acceptance to a school of higher education.

At the presentation of the Keystone UNICO Piccolo Scholarships were, front row from left: Emma Aversa of Old Forge High School. who will attend Penn State University; Cataldo Talutto of Dunmore High School who will attend Marywood University, and Keystone UNICO Piccolo Award chairman Marilyn Vitali.

Keystone Chapter UNICO also awarded the Angeline Manci RN Nursing Scholarship designed for a graduating senior from Dunmore High School whose intent is to pursue a degree in nursing and become an registered nurse, with a desire to contribute to the nursing profession with compassion, knowledge and care as was exemplified by Angeline Manci.

The student must have a B average or higher and have been accepted at a college or university, with plans to obtain a B.S. in nursing and licensure as an R.N. 

At the presentation of the inaugural scholarship, which is sponsored by the DiVizio and Manci families are, from left: Gene and Toni Manci DiVizio; awardee Maura Sheets of Dunmore High School, who will be attending Bloomsburg University; Maura’s mother, Mrs. Shannon Sheets; and Patti Manci.
