Big Brothers-Big Sisters Bowl for Kid’s Sake returns Saturday, April 27, at Idle Hours Lanes, Route 6, Dickson City.

Bowl for Kids’ Sake is Big Brothers – Big Sisters primary fundraiser to help continue its programs in Lackawanna County.

Slots are available for teams to participate at noon and 1:30 p.m. Participants in Bowl for Kid’s Sake are bowling for a child’s hope by supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters. All the money raised goes back into the program to supply snacks, crafts, and activities to encourage healthy habits like polite manners and building positive self-esteem.

There are a lot of ways to be involved, including but not limited to, volunteering to be a “Big,” sponsoring Bowl for Kids’ Sake; or getting a team together to go bowling.

The suggested donation is $30 per person, and gaining team and individual sponsorships from the community is encouraged. It’s a great way to tell people about BB/BS and let them know about the services provided.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a mentoring agency focused on helping children achieve success in life. There are three different types of programs: school based, site-based, and community-based.

Big Brothers Big Sisters pairs children in adversity to an adult who has been interviewed and has common interests with the child to start an incredible mentoring relationship.

Crimson Company Presents “BEEHIVE: The 60’s Musical”

The 1960’s come alive on stage as the Dunmore High School Crimson Company Drama Club presents “BEEHIVE: The 60’s Musical.”

Performances will be on March 28, 29, and 30, as well as April 3, 4 5 and 6. The curtain will rise at 7:00 each evening at the Dunmore High School Auditorium. The cast and crew will also take the stage for a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday, March 31.

Spring Yard Sale

Camp Ladore will again be the venue for the Early Spring Yard Sale, on Saturday, March 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hosted annually by The Salvation Army in the Performing Arts & Recreation Center (PARC) at its 287 Owego Turnpike location, the indoor venue promises to have something for everyone, no matter the weather. AARP Pasta Dinner

A pasta dinner and basket raffle will be hosted by AARP Chapter 3731 of North East Pennsylvania on Sunday, April 7, at Dunmore Senior Center from 1 to 3 p.m. with take outs at noon. Cost is $10 for adults; $6 for children. Guests are encouraged to wear green for this chapter fundraiser.

UNICO Membership Drive

Keystone Chapter UNICO will host a March Madness Membership Drive featuring a great evening at Arcaro & Genell’s, Old Forge, featuring entertainment by Frankie Gervasi, pizza, salads and dessert, door prizes and much more. DHS 1969 Class Reunion

The Dunmore High School Class of 1969 is in the process planning its 50th reunion with details to follow. We have been reaching out to all members, but have not yet been able to locate several members.

Choral Competition

Keystone Chapter UNICO is Presenting a Lackawanna County High School Choral Competition on March 24th at Lackawanna College. All county high schools have been invited to participate. The cost for admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students, and children five and under are free. Trivia/Happy Hour

The Leadership Lackawanna Core Program Class Team “Puttin’ on the Ritz” will host a Trivia/Happy Hour to benefit their class project of installing the Poli Historic Gallery at the Ritz Theater in downtown Scranton. The event will be held on Sunday, March 31, beginning at 1 p.m. at Cooper’s Seafood House, 701. N. Washington Ave. Tickets are $30 and include free select drinks and appetizers, trivia play, access to raffles and more. Little Sisters Sale

The Little Sisters of the Poor will extend its “This, That, and the Other Thing” sale through Saturday, April 27, at Holy Family Residence, 2500 Adams Avenue in Scranton.

Sale hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The sale includes small furniture, desks, beds, lockers, decorations and much more. There will be different items every week. All remaining items from the convent must go.

Vendor/Craft Fair

The Riverside Promoting School-community-university Partnerships to Enhance Resilience (PROSPER) team is hosting a Spring vendor and craft fair on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Riverside Elementary East School. Vendor space is available for $30 for a single space, and all exhibitors are asked to provide a door prize.

Proceeds will benefit PROmoting School-community-university Partnerships to Enhance Resilience (PROSPER) drug and alcohol prevention programs at Riverside Elementary East School.

Rummage Sale

Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Olyphant, will hold a special first time-spring cleaning “Freeze” rummage sale as a fundraiser on Saturday, March 9, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at St Cyril’s School gym,133 River Street Olyphant.

Special prices will be applied and the “spring cleaning” sale will include half off all furniture currently in the school gym, and 25 cents on all other items such as holidays decorations, dishes, glasses, household items, handbags, with a few exceptions.

NEPA Green Fair

On Saturday, April 27th, the NEPA Green Fair & 5K Run / Walk will be held at Nay Aug Park in Scranton, on Saturday, April 27, celebrating all things “green.” This all-day, family-friendly festival will feature educational programs and demonstrations, children’s activities, earth friendly vendors, live music, hiking, free yoga classes, and delicious healthy food vendors.

Migration Art Exhibit at Marywood

Marywood University’s Art Galleries is hosting an exhibit, “MIGRATION,” by Betsy Kleinsasser, bachelor of fine arts student, through Friday, March 8, in the Suraci Gallery. “MIGRATION” is an installation of more than 300 ceramic birds in steel trees. Lackawanna College Financial Aid Days

Lackawanna College’s Office of Financial Aid will hold free financial aid days on Feb. 27, Mar. 27 and Apr. 24 in room 209 of Angeli Hall, 501 Vine St., from 1-3 p.m. Parents, guardians and students seeking to attend any college or university are invited to attend.

Participants attending the event will have an opportunity to work with representatives from the Lackawanna College Office of Financial Aid to get assistance with completing the 2019-2020 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Attendees should arrive at the event prepared with a 2017 completed tax return and any documents that show income for 2017. This event is free and open to the public. No registration is required. For questions, contact the Office of Financial Aid at (570) 961-7859.

Catholic Choral Society’s Lenten Concert Series

In a 69-year tradition of inspiring prayer and meditation through music, the Catholic Choral Society will present its annual Lenten Concerts in Scranton and Harford.

The first concert on Sunday, March 24, will be held at 3 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church,1403 Jackson St., Scranton.The Chapel Singera, under the direction of Sheila O’Brien, will be guest performers. Pastor is Rev. Richard E Fox and senior priest is Rev. John C Ruth.

The second concert will be held on Sunday, March 31stat 3 p.m. at First Congregational Church of Harford, UCC. The Mountainview Chimettes, under the direction of Molly Love-Birosak, will be guest performers. Pastor is Will Hagenbuch.

The concerts are open to the public free of charge. There will be a goodwill offering. Dr. Thomas Rittenhouse and Brenda Grunza are co-presidents of the Catholic Choral Society. Ann Manganiello is music director, while Jean Shields is accompanist.

The group, marking its 69thseason, is composed of 50 members from Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wayne,Susquehanna and Wyoming counties who will perform inspirational music in the Lenten tradition at the March concerts.
