Dunmore’s Keystone UNICO conducted a new member induction ceremony at its annual picnic at McDade Park.

Dunmore’s Keystone Chapter UNICO National donated $500 to Dunmorean Carl Yanowski, whose house caught fire in June. Carl lost everything in the consuming fire, but fortunately, neither Carl or the gentleman for whom he serves as caregiver suffered any injuries.

Dunmore’s Keystone Chapter UNICO National recently host its sixth annual Charity Pig Roast at Fiorelli’s Catering in Peckville. The theme for this event was “An Evening in Venice.”
The room was decked out with several Venetian murals and there was even a gondola created by Joe Mullen and painted by David Schulte’s students from Scranton High School. The major beneficiary was The Arc of Northeastern PA.
The evening began with an enjoyable cocktail hour of open bar and butlered hors d’oeuvres during which the guests had the opportunity to have their picture taken by professional photographer Rich Banick. The program began with co-chairmen Bob Collins and Frank Coviello welcoming the guests.
The invocation was given by Toni DiVizio and recognition was made of the recent passing of Keystone Chapter’s Charter Member Sandy Cancelleri. Sergeant- at-Arms Tom Carlucci led with the pledge of allegiance. Chapter president Cathy Gerard gave a short presentation on the mission of UNICO and then introduced Past PA II District Governor Peter Noto, who acknowledged all dignitaries present.
President Gerard then introduced UNICO National Executive Vice-president Lee Norelli, who spoke on the mission of UNICO National. Other UNICO representatives present were First Vice-president UNICO National Dr. Frank DeFrank; District Governor of UNICO PA II Dr. Peter Pettinato; Past District Governor of UNICO PA I and representing the Wilkes Barre UNICO Chapter Dominick Ortolani; president of the Carbondale Chapter UNICO Yvonne Gatto; and UNICO National Past President Glenn Pettinato.
Past National Membership Director and Keystone Charter President Mark McDade introduced Maryclaire Kretsch, the Arc of NEPA’s Executive Director, who spoke on The Arc’s mission in our community. After dinner, the guests were treated to a performance from “Beauty and The Beast” by dancers Robert Zaloga and Ginger Cruz under the artistic direction of Helen Gaus of the Scranton Civic Ballet Company.
Then, special guest, Newscaster Nick Toma of WBRE TV took over and announced the raffle winners. Benediction was offered by Sandra Collins and “EJ the DJ” entertained the guests for the remainder of the evening.
