Lilly McDonald of Dunmore will perform as the Snow Queen in the Scranton Civic Ballet’s upcoming production of “The Nutcracker.”
Under the artistic direction of Miss Helen Gaus and assistant director Julio Alegria, 80 students and adults, ranging in age from 8 to 75, will share the timeless story of Clara, Drosselmeyer and the Nutcracker that unfolds as the delicate Sugar Plum Fairy and all of Tchaikovsky’s musical sprites weave their enchanting spell.
Tickets for the public performances Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. hosted at the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple may be purchased at the Cultural Center Box Office at a cost of $18.50, plus fees. For ticket information, call 570-346-7369.
In the majestic surroundings of the Scranton Cultural Center, the Scranton Civic Ballet Company will present its annual “Eye on Dance” educational performance of “The Nutcracker” on Friday, Dec. 13.
The experience begins at 10 a.m. and will last approximately 1.5 hours. As part of a continuing commitment to education, this school performance will be presented to students at no charge.
Founded in 1978 by Miss Helen Gaus, The Scranton Civic Ballet Company is a non-profit organization focused on dance education and performance. It is the company’s mission to educate our members and the public in the art of dance while bringing the talents of well-known artists, choreographers, and master teachers into Northeast Pennsylvania for our students as well as our audiences.
Ballet Theatre of Scranton will move its annual holiday gift of The Nutcracker to its new home at the Theater at North this December. This original Scranton production has been presented for 44 years free of charge to the community and has been enjoyed by over 350,000 people to date.
