Dunmore senior first baseman Megan Pavlowski has done nothing but hit since she became a varsity starter in her sophomore season.

After hitting close to .400 in her first two years on the team, she is batting over .370 this year. She was 4-for-4, including two doubles, a run and RBI in the Lady Bucks 14-10 win over Old Forge, Saturday, April 25.

Daughter of Melissa and Tom Pavlowski, Dunmore, Megan is well versed and a member of numerous clubs at Dunmore High School.

She has a 95 academic average and 3.5 grade point average. Her favorite subject is Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

The talented scholar-athlete is a member of the National Honor Society, French Club, Spanish Club, SADD, Service Club, Earth Club, Health Careers Club and is president of the TACT Club. She is also a basketball cheerleader.

Megan attributes a lot of her Dunmore softball success to her coach, Ryan Ferguson.

“He teaches us to be confident at all times. He tells us if we put hard work in during practice, then it will show up during the games.”

The senior stalwart said her parents have been great role models. “They always tell me to be respectful. One of their biggest things is telling me to treat people the way you would expect to be treated.”

Megan said she enjoys listening to music in her spare time and would like to see country singer Luke Holmes in concert.

Athlete of the Month - PavlowskiShe is going to Marywood University in the fall to study architecture, a five-year program. She also hopes to play on the Marywood softball team.

“My future goals are to get an architecture degree and become an architect. I would love to play more softball in college too.”

Megan was an honorable mention for her softball play as a junior last year at Dunmore.

“I think we have a good team. We all get along so well. We are well coached.”

Megan played five years of travel softball for the Northeast Diamonds. “It was a great experience.”

The well spoken and positive senior said she has enjoyed her experience at Dunmore. “Dunmore High School is great. It is like a family. It is my second home. We are all so close here. Dunmore is one town, one family.”

Megan expressed her thoughts on the recent retirement of Dunmore legendary football coach Jack Henzes.

“He is just a great man. He was my driving coach and my teacher for multiple years. He was such a great football coach. It is so sad to see him go. He is just an amazing gentleman. We are all sorry to see him retire.”

Co-Athlete of Month: Tommi Jane Golden

Dunmore Lady Bucks catcher Tommi Jane Golden is a positive force with her teammates.

Always energized and full of life, the senior catcher is hitting well over .300 and doing a superb job behind the plate in her fourth year on the team.

Daughter of Tom and Deanna Golden, it is easy to generate a laugh and positive reaction with the scholar-athlete with has a 94 academic average. Her grandfather is Dunmore Funeral Director Thomas Golden.

She had a 4-for-4 game, including a double, two runs and RBI in Dunmore’s 14-10 win over Old Forge Thursday, April 25.

Tommi Jane, 18, has been playing softball since age five. She played in travel softball leagues from the seventh grade through last summer. She played four years with the Northeast Diamonds and last summer with the Impact Panthers.

She is coached by the veteran Ryan Ferguson at Dunmore.

“He gets us ready for what it takes to be a good player on the field,” she said.

Tommi said she learned a lot from her parents.

“They teach me to be respectful to others and do well in school. They help me keep focused with academics. They stay on me with that.”

Tommi Jane plays soccer and is a football cheerleader at Dunmore. She is co-captain of the football cheerleaders and was co-captain of the junior varsity squad.

“You need to be a leader and know where the players are on the field. You need to help with framing. You need to know where the ball goes off the bat.”

Tommi Jane said she will begin studies at East Stroudsburg University next fall. She hopes to become an athletic trainer and play on the softball team.

“I want to try out for the softball team and do well in school.”

She said her best academic subject is history and would love to see Arianna Grande in concert.

Tommi Jane also talked about the recent resignation of Dunmore legendary football coach Jack Henzes.

“It’s really sad,” she said. “It’s the end of an era. He coached my dad. We all love him. We were all hoping he could coach my younger brother Bo someday.”

Tommi Jane is savoring her final couple months at Dunmore High School as she prepares for college.

“Dunmore has been a lot of fun. I love the community. We get a lot of support. I am really going to miss it. Everyone in this school has been around me since I was little. I know everyone here. We are all friends.”

Lady Bucks Defeat Lady Crusaders in Annual Intraborough Game

The Intraborough Girls Basketball Championship Game between Dunmore and Holy Cross high schools was recently held at Holy Cross High School. The game, sponsored by the Dunmore Lions Club to help defray the cost of their College Scholarship program, is now in its 38th year.

The Dunmore Girls defeated the Holy Cross Girls by a score 73-42 and went on to an undefeated regular season.
