Lackawanna County Heritage Fair Will Return in 2020 and 2021

heritage fairOrganizers have announced that the Lackawanna County Heritage Fair will be back at Montage Mountain Resort for 2020 and that Montage Mountain Resort will also host the 2021 fair.

The Fair Board is grateful to Montage for the outstanding logistical support that it provided this year for the inaugural fair, as well as for opening its water park and chair lift to patrons of the fair as part of the price of fair admission.  Organizers intend to keep the admission price at or near $10 per person for the 2020 fair, and to once again include the water park and chair lift in the price of admission together with the carnival rides and entertainment.

It appears that 2020 is shaping up to be a great summer for world-class entertainment Northeastern Pennsylvania, and the Heritage Fair will be a part of it, with cross-promotion of the 2020 Fair in May, the International League 2020 AAA All Star Game at PNC Field in July, and the 2020 Air Show at the WB/S International Airport in August.  This convergence of entertainment events is unique in the country – it’s only available here in NEPA.

Further details of the cross-promotion will be announced in the coming months.  It is hoped that a special price can be offered to patrons who wish to attend all three of these unique and family-friendly entertainment events, and in that way give added value to patrons by helping them to stretch their family entertainment dollars.

The organizers are putting out a call for volunteers to serve on committees which will help the Fair Board with the planning of the 2020 Fair.  The board is interested in developing the more traditional themes of county fairs, such as competitions, agriculture, horticulture, and home economics, and they are looking for people with business management backgrounds who can help with business modeling and best practices.

Vendors Needed for Inaugural Lackawanna County Heritage Fair

heritage fairPlans are underway for the first ever Lackawanna County Heritage Fair to be held from Wednesday, May 29, through Sunday, June 2, at Montage Mountain Resort.

The Fair Board is seeking sponsors, exhibitors, vendors, heritage, civic and charitable organizations and local churches to become participants in the upcoming heritage fair.

“We are seeking all types of civic, charitable and heritage organizations and performance artists to participate in the upcoming fair. We have chosen the theme heritage of the area to showcase the different cultures of Northeastern Pennsylvania, and their contribution to our economic and their social development,” says Armand Olivetti, chairman of the inaugural fair.

“This is a great opportunity for local churches, civic and heritage organizations to feature their heritage, culture and ethnic foods, and their contributions to the history of Lackawanna County and Northeastern Pennsylvania.”

The inaugural fair will consist of a midway with several ride attractions, entertainment, local vendors, exhibitors, heritage and civic organizations, and churches providing ethnic foods from around Lackawanna County.  The ticket price will also include parking and access to Montage Mountain Resort’s water park.

Spaces will be available for crafts, business and food vendors on a first come first service basis.

First Ever Lackawanna County Heritage Fair Kicks off May 29th

lackawanna county fair logoThe Lackawanna County Fair Board has selected Montage Mountain Resort as the location of the inaugural Lackawanna County Heritage Fair.  The Fair will take place May 29, 2019, through June 2, 2019 and will include approximately 21 amusement rides; midway games and food vendors; local heritage displays; ethnic and local food vendors; retail, craft and artisan vendors; wine and craft brewery vendors; and live entertainment.

Montage Mountain resort has agreed to include its water park rides in the price of admission and will offer access to its zip line and chair lifts for an additional fee.  The Resort’s restaurant and bar, Slocum Hollow, will also be open during the Fair.

The Board will conduct a series of fundraising events in the next few months.  The events will include contests, raffles, and themed events such as craft fairs.  They will take place at the Lodge at Montage Mountain Resort and at other locations open to the general public.  The Board is also exploring the creation of a “Founders’ Circle” fundraising drive similar to that used to raise the money needed to acquire the minor league baseball franchise many years ago.

The Lackawanna County Fair and Recreation Authority has selected the Scranton Area Community Foundation (SACF), a tax-exempt community foundation, to establish and manage the “Lackawanna County Fair Fund.”  The SACF will accept and disburse tax-deductible contributions to support the charitable causes and public activities related to the annual Lackawanna County Fair.

For 64 years the SACF has connected generous donors and fund holders with worthwhile community organizations to benefit local causes and charities.  In recent years the SACF has provided in excess of $1 million annually to fund many worthwhile community projects.

The SACF has its roots in a community trust established in 1954 by the late Governor William Scranton and his wife, Mary Chamberlin Scranton.  The Lackawanna County Fair Fund administered by the SACF is a non-endowed pass through fund which will be used for annual operating expenses of the County Fair.
