In a time where love and togetherness are needed more than ever, I am proud to promote our local flower and gift shops to all the residents of Dunmore.
These businesses have been a staple of our community for many years and it is only fitting that we support the hardworking owners and their dedicated employees that give so much back to our community.
I encourage all residents to visit these shops to find the perfect gift for their loved ones. From beautiful bouquets to unique and personal gifts, our local flower and gift shops have it all. Not only will you be showing your love and appreciation to someone special, but you will also be supporting local businesses and the Dunmore economy.
So this Valentine’s Day, let’s come together as a community and spread love and kindness to all.
Chris and Cara Lowe of Cara Mia’s Delicatessen; Lori Iannielli Hart of Sheeley’s Drug Store, and the Iannielli Family Partnership recently donated these strong lights to brighten up Dunmore Corners. Dom Lalli and Rich Gammaitoni of Dunmore’s DPW Department hung the lights to begin the start of improvements coming to the Borough’s dowtown area. –See Mayor Conways’s column for more information.
It’s been a busy September in the Mayor’s office. As I am sure you’ve noticed, our paving projects are off and running! My car is taking significantly less of a beating driving on Prospect Street and West Drinker Street, just to name a few. Thank you to our Council and especially Council President Vince Amico for spearheading this badly needed project!
On another note…A big piece of the future of the Borough is our downtown district or more commonly known “The Corners.” Over these last few months, I have been working with Council, our business community, architects, and consultants to put together a “Downtown District” plan…think downtown Pittston.
I am happy to say that over these last few weeks we made significant progress in getting the ball rolling. This plan will be al- encompassing, from streetscapes to facades. It will not be done overnight and will take a large amount of work, but I think if we want to move the Borough forward we need to focus on our downtown.
In the meantime, I am happy that we have had business owners step up to beautify our downtown with smaller upgrades that make a big difference. A huge thank you to Chris and Cara Lowe of Cara Mia’s Delicatessen, Lori Iannielli Hart of Sheeley’s Drug Store, and the Iannielli Family Partnership for donating the string lights that you may have noticed are brightening up our Corners!

It’s hard to believe that September is already here! I hope all our students (and our teachers) in the Borough are not too upset that summer is gone and the school year is here. I’m wishing everyone a very safe and productive school year.
In addition to school being back in session, our local officials have been busy planning the Borough’s first real paving project in years! When I ran for Mayor, I promised to work in unison with Council to pave our roads. Over the last few months, Council and I have been planning to do just that. In addition to the list of roads in the graphic, we have a contractor working on patching roads that do not need a full pave. We hope to pave more in the future, but we think this is a great start!
