The Mayor’s Message: March Update

By Max Conway
Mayor of Dunmore

It has been a busy first month in the Dunmore mayor’s office! One of the main highlights of this month was the sale of a blighted property located on Green Ridge Street that the Borough purchased last year. We recently sold the property to an individual who plans to renovate and revive the home back to its original grandness!

In addition to our continued fight against blight, we also started to take a closer look at potential options to remedy the problems with the Mill Street Bridge. I have been in contact with PennDot as well as our federal and state representatives to brainstorm ideas for potential solutions for a challenge that has been kicked down the road for far too long.

Some other things we have been working on include making significant progress on our “Safe Transfer Zone.” As a reminder, the safe zone will ensure a significantly safer experience with online transactions and domestic exchanges. We hope to have the safe zone fully operational at the Borough Building in the next few weeks.

We have also been looking into updating our Borough website, a mass notification system for announcements and alerts, and potential updates to Dunmore Corners!

Max Conway Announces Bid for Dunmore Mayor

Mark “Max” Conway, Jr. has announced his intention to run for Mayor of Dunmore in the Primary Election on May 18. He is a graduate of Dunmore High School and Temple University, which is where he met his fiancé, Ally Gallo.

Following his graduation, Max worked for Senator Robert P. Casey Jr. after which he ran Congressional campaign finances in California and New Jersey.

Following his time in politics, Max returned to the area and is now associated with Christian Saunders Real Estate.

Working in real estate has made him very aware of the challenges facing residential and commercial property owners and Dunmore residents as a whole.

“Dunmore is at a critical crossroads…from looming budget issues to a health and wellness crisis that has existed for far too long,” says Conway.

“The time has come to ask ourselves: What kind of a community do we want to be? With the right people and plans in place, we can start to look to a Dunmore that is more advanced, healthy and prosperous.”

Max is the son of Mark J. Conway and the late Mollie Maloney Conway. He was raised in a large Dunmore family where learned the value of respect, participation in the community and the importance of giving back to that community.

Max is enthusiastic about sharing his ideas and will be posting his platform ideas on Facebook and discussing them with residents as he campaigns throughout the borough.

Longtime Mayor Loughney Announces Election Bid

Patrick “Nibs” Loughney has announced that he is running for Mayor of Dunmore with the following statement:

“It is with great pride in my hometown that I formally announce my candidacy for Mayor of Dunmore Borough. Having previously served as your Mayor for 24 years, I developed a great working relationship with the residents of the Borough as well as our municipal employees.

“My priority has been, and will continue to be, the safety of our residents. Since the Mayor’s sole responsibility is overseeing the Police Department, I will make every effort to keep our town safe and protected.

“From a personal standpoint, I will work with Borough Council to ensure fiscal responsibility and continue the fine services provided by our employees. We are facing a challenging time in our lives. It is with that in mind that I believe experience matters…now more than ever.

“I appreciate your consideration, support, and vote in the upcoming municipal election.”
