Tomorrow’s Leaders Today meets for first session

The Leadership Lackawanna Tomorrow’s Leaders Today (TLT) program class of 2022-2023 met on Oct. 20, for its first session, with Geanna Kirchner from Dunmore High School and Brooke Bilski from Holy Cross High School participating. 

During the next seven-months, this elite group of 42 High School leaders will meet monthly to gain leadership, interpersonal and managerial skills. TLT provides real-world experiences in the areas of health care, STEAM, history and heritage, crime and corrections, financial literacy, philanthropy, non-profit organizations, and community service. 

Sessions are held one full weekday each month. The TLT Program accepts applications from high school sophomores who wish to improve their personal skills and impact their local community.

This year, Leadership Lackawanna proudly celebrates its 40th year.  Leadership Lackawanna strives to enhance the skills, connections and knowledge of emerging and established leaders, hence strengthening our communities, workplaces and organizations.

The 2022-23 program participants also include students from Western Wayne, Valley View, West Scranton, Riverside, Abington Heights, Carbondale Area, Old Forge, Commonwealth Charter Academy, Scranton Preparatory School and Mid Valley.

Celebrating Tomorrow’s Leaders Today

The Leadership Lackawanna teen program, Tomorrow’s Leaders Today (TLT), recently celebrated the end of the 2021-2022 program year with a ceremony held at the Hilton Scranton. Leadership Lackawanna’s seven-month TLT program develops the leadership, interpersonal and managerial skills of high school juniors and provides real-world experiences in the areas of financial literacy, health care, STEAM, philanthropy, non-profit organizations, and community service.

Throughout the program, students were engaged in a variety of sessions facilitated by local organizations. Their program culminated with the allocation of $8,000 in grant money from the Scranton Area Foundation to 4 deserving local non-profits that were selected by the students.

Leadership Lackawanna Hold Fundraising Raffle

Leadership Lackawanna’s Core Program Class of 2022 is presenting a fundraising raffle event for Mercatili-Segilia Park during Scranton Ice Fest 2022 when 50-50 tickets and raffle basket opportunities will be available outside of the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce building, 222 Mulberry St. Scranton, on Friday, Feb. 4 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 5 from noon to 3 p.m. 

Raffle tickets will be sold at a cost of $10 for five tickets and $15 for 10 tickets. Tickets will be eligible for baskets and gift cards from Mendicino’s, Meal Prep Grind, Kriger Pipeline, Autumn Granza Photography, Pronko Jewelers, ShopRite/ACE Hardware, Kalahari, Greater Scranton YMCA, as well as cash prizes. Raffle ticket sales are cash-only.

This two-day fundraising event will benefit Mercatili-Segilia Park located at 4046 Birney Avenue, Moosic. Winners will be drawn on Saturday, Feb. 5t, after 3 p.m. and winners’ names will be posted on Leadership Lackawanna’s Facebook page. 

All funds raised will be used to support improvements to the park that will be carried out by Leadership Lackawanna’s Mercatili-Segilia Park project team in coordination with the Mercatili-Segilia Park Committee. The team began fundraising in 2021 and planned improvements include refurbishing the park’s picnic tables, benches and gazebo, and installing signage.
