Leadership Lackawanna Hold Fundraising Raffle

Leadership Lackawanna’s Core Program Class of 2022 is presenting a fundraising raffle event for Mercatili-Segilia Park during Scranton Ice Fest 2022 when 50-50 tickets and raffle basket opportunities will be available outside of the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce building, 222 Mulberry St. Scranton, on Friday, Feb. 4 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 5 from noon to 3 p.m. 

Raffle tickets will be sold at a cost of $10 for five tickets and $15 for 10 tickets. Tickets will be eligible for baskets and gift cards from Mendicino’s, Meal Prep Grind, Kriger Pipeline, Autumn Granza Photography, Pronko Jewelers, ShopRite/ACE Hardware, Kalahari, Greater Scranton YMCA, as well as cash prizes. Raffle ticket sales are cash-only.

This two-day fundraising event will benefit Mercatili-Segilia Park located at 4046 Birney Avenue, Moosic. Winners will be drawn on Saturday, Feb. 5t, after 3 p.m. and winners’ names will be posted on Leadership Lackawanna’s Facebook page. 

All funds raised will be used to support improvements to the park that will be carried out by Leadership Lackawanna’s Mercatili-Segilia Park project team in coordination with the Mercatili-Segilia Park Committee. The team began fundraising in 2021 and planned improvements include refurbishing the park’s picnic tables, benches and gazebo, and installing signage. Leadership Lackawanna Core Class 2020-2021

The Leadership Lackawanna Core program Class of 2020-2021 recently held its first session. This year’s class will participate in a mix of virtual and in-person sessions.

“Although COVID has changed the structure of our Core program, I have no doubt this year’s class will graduate feeling accomplished,” said Nicole Morristell, executive director of Leadership Lackawanna.  “This year’s participants have accomplished great things in their past, and I look forward to seeing how they will use the leadership skills they acquire over the next 10 months.”

In Leadership Lackawanna’s 10-month Core Program participants gain leadership, interpersonal and managerial skills, as well as an enhanced understanding of the issues relevant to the Greater Scranton area, through monthly sessions.  Areas of focus include community development, economic development, government, health care, law, education, quality of life, sustainability, history and media, with sessions featuring widely recognized specialists.  Members of the class also devote a large portion of their time to developing and implementing community projects, hence enhancing their leadership abilities, fostering teamwork and benefiting local nonprofit organizations.

Leadership Lackawanna Helps Improve YMCA Play Area

The team assisted the YMCA’s Early Learning Center by providing enhancements to the existing play area which was designated for riding tricycles. The improvements included creating a track for the preschool-aged children to ride tricycles, as well as multi-themed decorations for the playground that is located at the front of the facility.
