Lackawanna College to Launch New Nursing Program

Lackawanna College has received initial approval from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and is now accepting applications for their Associate in Science in Nursing (ASN) program that will begin in Fall 2020.

The ASN degree at Lackawanna College is a two-year program that will prepare students to enter the medical field as a registered nurse (RN) in half the time as a traditional bachelor’s degree. The program will prepare students to take the National Council Licensure Examination-RN (NCLEX-RN) and enter the workforce immediately—filling a critical nursing shortage in the region.

“The recent approval from the State Board of Nursing for the program is owed to the support and vision of our region and the dedication of the administration at Lackawanna College,” said Dr. Judith Williams, Director of Nursing Programs at Lackawanna College. “I’m honored to be a part of the new ASN program and look forward to graduating successful nurses that will remain in this area to support nursing care needs.”

Through a $500,000 grant from the Moses Taylor Foundation, Lackawanna College will outfit a state-of-the-art simulation lab where students will prepare for high-stress work environments in the healthcare field with realistic patient simulators and hospital equipment.

Lackawanna’s ASN program will offer a direct pathway into the 100 percent online RN-to-BSN degree, a program designed for working RNs who already have an associate degree and are looking to advance their career.

Dunmoreans Celebrate Graduate from Lackawanna College

Lackawanna College awarded more than 330 associate degrees and certificates along with over 50 of its first-ever bachelor’s degrees to students from 11 states and countries during its 125th commencement May 19 in the College’s Student Union in downtown Scranton.

The following Dunmore students earned degrees and certificates: Justin W.R. UNICO Sponsors County’s First Ever High School Choral Competition

Dunmore’s Keystone Chapter UNICO sponsored the first Lackawanna County High School Choral Competition at the Peoples Security Bank Theatre at Lackawanna College. The event offered local high schools the opportunity to showcase the singing talent that their students have to offer and to provide the general public an enjoyable choral experience.

Valley View High School Choir received $500 for the winning performance. Abington Heights Honors Choir and Mid Valley Mixed Chorus each earned $250 for honorable mention.
