Crusaders Win 2020 Intraborough Boys Championship

Intraborough Holy Cross

The Intraborough Boys Basketball Championship Game between Dunmore and Holy Cross High Schools was recently held at Holy Cross High School.

This year the Holy Cross Boys defeated the Dunmore Boys by a score 69-46 and ended the regular season with a 20-2 record. The Holy Cross boys’ team is the top rated basketball club by the Scranton Times Sport Writers.

The game sponsored by the Dunmore Lions Club to help defray the cost of their College Scholarship Program is now in its 39thyear.  This year both teams will be entering the District Playoffs.

Damian The Magician Dazzles Students at Dunmore Elementary

The Dunmore Lions Club held its annual benefit show featuring “The Magic of Damian,” Pennsylvania’s foremost magician, at the Dunmore Elementary Center with over 800 students in attendance.

This marks the 27th consecutive year the Lions have featured Damian at Dunmore elementary schools, including St. Mary’s Parochial School. All proceeds will be utilized for scholarships to help defray college expenses for Holy Cross and Dunmore High Schools students.

The Dunmore Lions Club recently held its 39th annual scholarship award banquet at La Buona Vita Restaurant.  Honored with Penn State scholarships were Jennifer Robinson of Holy Cross High School and Cole Blasko of Dunmore High School.

Also honored with monetary gifts were: Dunmore High School Boy Scholar/Athlete –Greg McDade and Girl Scholar /Athlete- Gianna Delfino and Holy Cross High School Boy Scholar/Athlete- Anthony Fletcher and Girl Scholar/Athlete Kiearra Saldi.

Remarks were offered by Margo Balderson, guidance counselor at Dunmore High School and Alexa Schoenberg, guidance counselor, at Holy Cross High School. Presentation of awards was made by Lion president James Aita and Lion committee co-chairmen Sam Sebastianelli and James Colangelo. Michael Colangelo offered invocation.

Anthony DeSantis served as toastmaster and commented “These and past award recipients demonstrate the outstanding traits necessary to receive Lions awards. All recipients have shown exemplary leadership. They’re all amazing students”.
