Housing Needs Survey Released Amid Pandemic

The Lackawanna County Housing Coalition has released a housing needs survey to collect critical, up-to-date information about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the residents of Lackawanna County. The survey is intended for tenants, landlords, homeowners, and community organization staff and is available online in both English and Spanish:

Those who cannot complete the survey online may pick up a paper survey at United Neighborhood Centers Community Services, 410 Olive St., Scranton, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

The information collected through this survey will be used by local housing and social service providers to assist residents who have been impacted by the pandemic, particularly those who may face eviction or foreclosure when state-wide moratoriums expire at the end of August.

Marywood’s Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program Celebrates 100th Graduate

Marywood University’s Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program (Psy.D.) celebrated graduating the 100th student from its program at the University’s 102nd commencement ceremony on Aug. 15, 2020, during a virtual ceremony.

Marywood’s Psy.D. program accepted its first six students in 2001 and became an American Psychological Association accredited program in 2006. Alumni of the Psy.D. program work in a variety of settings, including private practices, medical centers, community mental health centers, college counseling centers, correctional facilities, and in the military.

The APA-accredited Psy.D. program at Marywood University prepares students to provide evidence-based and culturally-sensitive clinical services to diverse populations. Students develop competencies in nine areas, including research, ethical and legal standards, individual and cultural diversity, professional values and attitudes, communication and interpersonal skills, assessment, intervention, supervision, and consultation and interprofessional/interdisciplinary skills.

UNICO Presents 2020 Brian Piccolo Awards

Piccolo Grippi 2 Dunmore’s Keystone Chapter UNICO recently awarded its 2020 Brian Piccolo Awards to Lauren Grippi from Dunmore High School and Nicholas Tomassoni from Valley View High School.

This award is given to a Lackawanna County high school senior student athlete, male or female, who has exhibited excellence on the athletic field and in the classroom. Furthermore, the student has displayed the attributes of Brian Piccolo as shown by hard work, dedication, loyalty, and teamwork. The student must be recommended by their school’s athletic department and have traceable Italian ethnicity. Brian Piccolo, a native of Pittsfield, MA, was a running back for the Chicago Bears who died at the early age of 26 from cancer.

At the presentation to Lauren Grippi are members of the Keystone UNICO Piccolo Committee, including from left are Mark McDade, Nanine Gramigna, Awardee Lauren Grippi, Keystone president Frank Coviello, Ann Summa and Bob Kovatch.

Lauren will further her studies at Penn State University.
