Mayor’s Message: February 2024

By Mayor Max Conway

It has been a busy start to 2024 in the Borough. I’d like to take this opportunity to talk about something I feel very strongly towards and that is the news about potential water rate increases for Dunmore and Scranton residents.

I recently had the opportunity to address the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) and voice my strong opposition to the MASSIVE 25%-32% increase that PA American Water is looking to impose on Dunmore ratepayers. This potential increase is on top of the monstrous 70+% increase Dunmoreans saw just last year on their sewer bill.

I urged the PUC to think about the potential damage another large increase would do to our community and its residents. Water is a basic necessity and access to it should not become a luxury. No one should be forced to choose between paying for water and paying for their mortgage or groceries.
