Marie Barbuti of Scranton has been named May’s Artist of the Month from the painting class at the Dunmore Activity Hub. She was asked to respond to the following questions:
Describe your inspiration for these paintings: I painted the portrait of my mother to always have her picture in my dining room, as she was a wonderful cook, and the raccoons are because of my love for animals.
When did you start painting? I was the artist for my high school yearbook and did some oils as a teenager, but didn’t get too serious about it until I joined this class.
How long have you been painting with the group at Dunmore Activity Hub? I joined the class in 1992 and loved meeting great people with the same love of art. I’ve done many paintings and some I’ve given away.
Where do you get your ideas? Early on, all my painting ideas came out of my head. They were usually scenes from Victorian and Colonial periods. But recently my niche has turned towards portraits of people and animals.
Your comments about the class: Our teacher, Jill Swerzie, the students, the whole class is great. I look forward to Mondays between 1 and 3:20 p.m. Everyone is supportive of each other’s talent, and the painting is wonderful therapy.
Your positive comments about the Dunmore Activity Hub: There are so many interesting activities to engage in. People (seniors) need not stay home and be lonely when this great facility is available. Come out….Have some nice food and make some lovely friends.
