Bonfire at the Iron Furnaces

The sixth annual Bonfire at The Iron Furnaces will take place Saturday, Oct. 15, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the historic Scranton Iron Furnaces, a truly unique site with the remains of a standing blast furnace.

The Bonfire Festival, a fundraiser for the Anthracite Heritage Museum, explores the roots of Halloween in Celtic culture and celebrates other cultural autumn festivals while highlighting Northeastern PA’s industrial past.

This year’s event features music by Light Weight playing pop and rock, traditional German Brass oompah music by Schützengiggles, and Colleen and Jimmy Reynolds covering all your favorite songs, fire twirlers, a Jack O’Lantern competition, face painting, fire hooping, tarot card readings, a balloon artist, stilt walking, a Day of the Dead ofrenda, a Fairytale display and hands-on activity sponsored by the Everhart Museum, live theatre, dance performances by Symmetry Studio, a Harvest Display by the Greenhouse Project at Nay Aug Park, the ceremonial lighting of the bonfire, and food and beverages.

Tickets include admission to the festival and $5 in Bonfire Bucks, to use towards food, beverage, and activities.

Tickets are $15 online or $20 at the gate. As always, entrance to the festival is free for children 12 and under.

Everyone is encouraged to wear their favorite Halloween costume

Partnership finalized at Nay Aug Nature Play Area

Lackawanna County, the City of Scranton and the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority (LHVA) officials convene at the Nay Aug Avenue Nature Play Area in Scranton to finalize a working partnership between the County and LHVA.

The park project was a true intergovernmental partnership between the County, City of Scranton, Lackawanna County and the LHVA.  The City donated the land, LHVA secured funding and built the park, and now the County’s Parks & Recreation Department will maintain the grounds in cooperation with LHVA.
