NativityMiguel School leads way in science education

NativityMiguel School of Scranton continues to lead the way in science education, reflecting a deep and ongoing commitment to providing students with a rigorous and innovative learning experience. The school’s robust science program is a cornerstone of its academic offerings, emphasizing hands-on learning, critical thinking, and real-world application.

At NativityMiguel School of Scranton, science is woven into both curriculum and after-school programs as an integral part of its educational model. Offerings include a comprehensive STEM curriculum that challenges students to explore and apply scientific principles through hands-on learning and engages students in exploring natural phenomena. Beyond the classroom, students can participate in our LEGO Robotics Club, where they use coding to develop problem-solving and teamwork skills while engaging in fun, technology-driven projects.

The school’s science program also integrates workshops on environmental studies and sustainability practices, reflecting a dedication to teaching students the importance of stewardship and responsible citizenship. Sixth grader Pragyan Rai beautifully illustrated the concept of growth with a simple yet powerful analogy.

“We measured bean sprouts. Each day we saw it grow a little bit. We learned how something small can grow to something big.” Just as bean sprouts slowly evolve into thriving plants, our students develop and mature daily, making small strides that culminate in significant achievements. Pragyan’s analogy serves as a reminder of the incredible potential within each student, nurtured day by day.

Additionally, architecture classes provide opportunities for students to delve into the world of design and construction, fostering creativity and critical thinking. Together, these programs ensure that our students are not only well-versed in science but are also prepared to innovate and lead in their future endeavors.

“At NativityMiguel, we prioritize a science curriculum that goes beyond the basics,” said Sister Regina Bathalon SCC, Principal of NativityMiguel School of Scranton. “Our students benefit from a learning environment that fosters curiosity and innovation, preparing them to be the thinkers and problem-solvers of tomorrow.”

This commitment extends beyond the classroom. Through partnerships and workshops with local colleges and organizations, NativityMiguel students have access to advanced research facilities, education, and mentorship opportunities that enrich their learning experience and exposes students to possible higher education degrees and careers. These collaborations have provided students with unique insights into the world of science, enabling them to explore their interests in a supportive and resource-rich environment.

“Our approach to science education goes beyond just textbooks,” said Ron Prislupski, President of NativityMiguel School of Scranton. “We are committed to providing our students with real-world experiences that make science come alive and inspire them to pursue their passions. This is all made possible through the dedication of our faculty and staff, along with the support of our wonderful partners, including Geisinger, Johnson College, and Marywood University. Together, as part of our NativityMiguel family, we work to ensure that our students are well-prepared for success in high school and beyond.”

At NativityMiguel School of Scranton, the science program is designed to be inclusive and challenging, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed. By emphasizing collaboration, inquiry-based learning, and practical application, the school prepares its students not only to understand scientific concepts but to apply them in ways that make a difference.
