Cards for Charity benefits Little Sisters of the Poor

Cards for Charity recently raised $2,600 for the Little Sisters of the Poor at Holy Family Residence during the organization’s annual card party at Elmhurst Country Club. The event included a luncheon followed by an afternoon of bridge, mah jong, pinochle, and dominoes along with a basket raffle.

The Little Sisters also sold their famous scones and cookies. All proceeds will be used to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual health services to the residents.

Little Sisters of the Poor Night at PNC Field

The Little Sisters of the Poor at Holy Family Residence, Scranton, invite the community to join them for a fun-filled, family-friendly evening as they celebrate their fourth annual “Little Sisters of the Poor Night” on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at PNC Field, 235 Montage Mountain Rd., Moosic.

Prior to the 7:05 p.m. game where the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders will take on their division rivals, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, the Little Sisters will be available at the plaza entrance of the stadium to talk with visitors and also provide a pre-game, on-field interview about Holy Family Residence and their mission of serving the elderly poor throughout the world. At 6:45 p.m., one of the Little Sisters will even throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the game.

Tickets are $13 each for seats in the stadium’s field reserved section 28. Little Sisters of the Poor baseball t-shirts are $10 each and available in youth sizes as well as adult sizes small through 3XL.

Our Cabaret Productions presents: Nunsense

Our Cabaret Productions will present Dan Goggin’s off-Broadway smash hit musical comedy, “Nunsense” as a fundraiser for the Little Sisters of the Poor and their service to the underserved of the community. The show will run for a limited engagement of two performances on August 20 at 7 p.m. and August 21 at 2 p.m. at Holy Family Residence in Scranton.

This event is a collaboration of two “Nunsense” veterans, Rob Misko and John Baldino, who have been involved in productions of the show for over two decades. Baldino produces and Misko directs.

No production team in northeastern Pennsylvania has more experience with “Nunsesne,” and Our Cabaret Productions is the only professional production company in the region to mount this acclaimed musical comedy Misko directed the first non-Equity production of “Nunsense” in the United States, and has directed the show and two of its sequels for more than 20 years. He even appeared on stage with creator Dan Goggin in the show’s 25th Anniversary National Tour.

LSP-Nunsense “What really makes this show work is that it’s real,” says Misko. “Presenting the Sisters as real people, and not campy caricatures is the essence of the show. John and I understand the humor of the nun because we know so many Religious Sisters so well. We were both taught by nuns.”

“I have a tremendous respect for nuns,” adds Baldino. “I’ve worked with Sisters my entire adult life, and that’s what makes me love ‘Nunsense.’ Working with Robby (Misko) makes it even better as we have the same vision for the show, and are true to Dan Goggin’s original intention.”

“Nunsense” is the story of the Little Sisters of Hoboken and their fundraiser variety show. The show stars Misko as Reverend Mother and Baldino as Sr. Mary Hubert, a role he has played over 75 times. Completing the cast are Erin Canedy as Sr. Mary Leo, Christine McGeachie as Sr. Mary Amnesia, and Courtney Rosenkrans as Sr. Mary Robert Anne.

The Sisters take the stage on August 20 at 7 p.m. and August 21 at 2 p.m. at Holy Family Residence, 2500 Adams Avenue in Scranton.
