Jennie Cali Scott, 88, Dunmore, died Tuesday morning at the Regional Hospital of Scranton. She is survived by her husband Thomas Scott. They would have been married 55 years on July 3rd.

Born in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Angelina Messina Cali. Jennie was a graduate of Dunmore High School, a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore and prior to retirement worked at Cal-Ideas in Dunmore.

Also surviving are daughters, Diane Gallant and her husband Daniel, Roaring Brook Twp., and Jennifer Comparetta, Dunmore, a brother, Anthony Cali, Albany, NY, six grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Sasha Podunajec and husband Garret, Prompton, PA, Anya Gallant and fiancé Ben Nguyen, Houston, TX, Kassia Gallant, Kunkletown, PA, Emily and Brian Comparetta, Dunmore, and Zachary Gallant, Roaring Brook Twp., and numerous nieces and nephews who meant so much to her and she loved them all dearly.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law David Comparetta in August 2019, six sisters, Concetta Parrino, Apolina Lemoncelli, Madelyn Naro, Stella Sworin, Theresa Sabia, and Mary Fedgo and two brothers, Sam and Charles Cali.

A private funeral service and burial will take place at the Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton.

Remembering Naomi W. Alamar

Naomi Weiner Alamar, 94, of Scranton, passed away on Tuesday at the Jewish Home of Eastern PA.  She was the wife of the late Paul Alamar who died on February 2, 2017. The couple had been married for 70 years.

She was born in Philadelphia to the late William and Rose Fox Weiner. She graduated from Scranton Central High School. Attended Marywood College and earned her BA and MA degree. She substitute taught in the Scranton School District, learned sign language so she could substitute at the State School of the Deaf.  She taught ESOL through SCOLA. George Bush presented her with the Presidential Award for Volunteerism.

She was active in Temple Israel, taught Hebrew School, and was involved with its sisterhood and Hadassah.  Active also with Meals on Wheels and the Girl Scouts. She was an active member of the Ladies Golf Association at Glen Oak Country Club.

  Surviving her is her brother, Arthur Weiner of Athens, GA, daughters Frances (Robert Gelb) of Williamsburg, VA and Hope (Jeffrey Morris) of Queen Creek, AZ, five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

A Private funeral will be held at Temple Israel Cemetery, Dunmore. In Lieu of flowers, a contribution to the charity of your choice can be made.

Remembering Rosemary E. Demanovich

Rosemary E. Demanovich, 70, of Dunmore, died Sunday morning at Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton.  She is survived by her husband, Stephen V. Demanovich.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Frank and Mary Pizzola Caputo, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School.

Rosemary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, who especially treasured visits and time spent with her family and grandchildren, whom she loved so dearly.  Crocheting in her spare time, she enjoyed crafting blankets for loved ones and friends. Her very social personality led her to volunteer frequently at St. Joseph’s Center, where she could lend her talents wherever they were needed. One of her favorite activities was monthly dinner gatherings with her close group of friends. 

Also surviving are a son, Stephen J. Demanovich and wife Jennifer of Lithia, FL; daughter Marisa Carlson of Florida; grandchildren, Ashlyn and Cooper Demanovich, and Aveya and Jayden Carlson; her brother, Joseph F. Caputo of Scranton; as well as nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services and interment will be privately held.
