Frank “Turk” Mawn, 73, of Dunmore, died early Saturday morning after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, the former Judy Foley, to whom he had been married to for almost 48 years.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank and Ruth Fanning Mawn. Frank was a 1965 graduate of South Catholic High School and served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Paul’s Parish in Scranton. Prior to retirement, he worked as an electrician for IBEW Local 81 for over 50 years.

Frank was never one to shy away from hard work and the call of duty. He traveled far and wide throughout his career as an electrician to wherever he was needed. Family was the most important thing in Frank’s life. He spent many years cheering his children on in various sports and extracurricular activities.  One of his greatest pleasures was watching his sons play football for the Dunmore Bucks. In recent years, he traded his allegiance from the Dunmore Bucks to the Old Forge Jr. Blue Devils while watching his granddaughters cheer. Every year he looked forward to the annual family beach trip and dancing the night away at Seacrets, where he once won the limbo contest. Frank’s quick wit and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Also surviving are three daughters: Megan Lindsay and husband Paul J. of Scranton; Bridget Mawn of Raleigh, NC; and Katie Zimmerman and husband Max of Phoenixville; two sons: Patrick and wife Amanda of Old Forge; and Frank of Dunmore; four grandchildren Hannah and Michael Zimmerman and Mackenzie and Molly Mawn; two sisters: Phyllis Davey and husband James of Clarks Summit; and Elaine Bahara of Elmhurst, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his niece and goddaughter Susan Davey Christian.

The family would like to thank Dr. Remick, Dr. Liptock and the staff at Hematology/Oncology Associates of Dunmore, and Dr. Peters at NROC Dunmore for their kindness and compassion caring for Frank throughout the course of his illness.

A private graveside service will take place this week in the Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Center 2010 Adams Ave. Scranton, PA 18509. A mass and celebration of life will occur at a later date.

Anthony J. (Tony) Barone Sr., 81, of Dunmore, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon at Dunmore Health Care Center. His beloved wife is the former Audrey Quinn they would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in May.

Born on September 10, 1938, and raised in Dunmore, Tony was the son of the late Charles and Rose Lawrence Barone and a graduate of Dunmore High School. He enjoyed a 37 year career progressing to a store manager with Giant Markets until closing. He was also employed by The Gino J. Merli Veterans Center and FNCB in the later part of his career. He was a member of Saints Anthony and Rocco Parish, Dunmore.

During and upon graduation he began his professional career within the grocery industry, establishing a strong work ethic and innate ability of hiring young talent to his store. He was very proud of the many students and employees that once worked with him who he reminded every time he would see them.  Tony was a true Dunmorean who always cared more than he appeared. He was full of life and for those close to him understood he would call it like he saw it, right wrong or indifferent. That was on the outside but family and close friends knew the real side where he would always be the first to help someone in need, giving more than he had and never expecting anything in return. He cherished his close friends and the many years of friendship throughout his life. He had a love for the game of golf and was a 41 year member of Elmhurst Country Club.

He was a lifetime soul mate to his wife Audrey, an inspiration to his sons, a family ambassador to his brothers and sisters and the best Papa ever to his grandchildren. Marisa, John, Caroline and Abbey his grandchildren were his world. He adored them and he was very proud of their many accomplishments in life which he shared with others on a daily basis.

The family would like to thank Dr. Salvatore Lawrence (cousin), Dr. David D’Alessandro, Dr. Ira Kohn and Dr. Jerald Gilbert for their unwavering  compassion and care they provided over the years.
