Mayor’s Message: Dunmore Police receive grant for body cameras

I am proud to report that after several months of work, the Dunmore Police Department has received the good news that it was the recipient of a grant for $50,000 to purchase body-worn cameras.

We would like to thank Representative Kyle Mullins for his critical assistance in obtaining this grant and Governor Josh Shapiro’s Office of Community and Economic Development for reviewing and approving the grant.

The Dunmore Police Department is among the few departments in Northeastern PA that currently do not utilize body-worn cameras. When we were looking at how we could improve the department, we determined that body-worn cameras would benefit the department in many ways.

We recognize the role that body cameras play in transparency and accountability within our community. By enhancing public trust and officer accountability, these cameras will contribute to a safer and more accountable policing environment in Dunmore.

“Christmas with the Cops” returns for sixth year

For the sixth year in a row, the Dunmore Police Department is working to bring holiday cheer to families in Dunmore. The ongoing tradition has brought smiles to the faces of over 2,000 children since 2017.

Every year, We work with the Dunmore School District to identify some special children by obtaining a “wants and needs” list. With the help of community members and many charitable organizations, they have made those dreams a reality.

Individuals looking to support this wonderful cause may do so through monetary donations or by dropping off an unwrapped toy at the Dunmore Police Station or at the Christmas in the Corners Event on Saturday December 9, starting at 3:30 pm, when officers will have a cruiser to cram.

45th Year for Annual Elite Bunny Hunt

The Dunmore Lions and Rotary Clubs, Dunmore Police and Fire Departments once again combined efforts to hold the annual Elite Bunny Hunt on Saturday, April 16, at St. Anthony’s Playground and Fieldhouse.

The event is in its 45th year of service to the children of Dunmore and surrounding areas. Over 750 Easter bags featuring large and small chocolate bunnies and an assortment of candy eggs were distributed. There were Easter basket raffles and photos with the Easter bunny for children 11 and younger.

Additionally, a fundraiser was held during the event in order to donate to the war effort in Ukraine.
