Dunmore Lions Club Members Honored at NEPA District 14-H Convention

Richard Green of the Dunmore Lions Club was awarded the prestigious Carl Shoemaker fellowship medal at a recent NEPA Lion District 14-H Convention held at the Radisson, Scranton.

The medal is presented to the Lion who shares the spirit of volunteerism and drive that was exemplified by Lion Carl Shoemaker. Mr. Shoemaker was the founder of Pa. Lion’s Beacon Lodge Camp located in Mount Union Pennsylvania. Lion Carl’s lifelong work was to help blind and special needs children and adults to improve their lives through the camping experiences that the Beacon Lodge has provided since 1948.

Presenting the award to Mr. Green are International Director Gary Brown and District Governor Cathy Metschulat.

Sam Sebastianelli Sr. of the Dunmore Lions Club was presented with the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Melvin Jones was the founder of Lions Clubs International, the largest service organization in the world.

The award is the highest honor that Lions Clubs worldwide bestows on an individual who embodies humanitarian ideas and efforts consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism.

The recipient of this award has exhibited exemplary service to the Club and the Community for which he serves.

The award is not granted each year. It is instead granted only if there is a Lion who has earned it. Shown presenting the award to Mr. Sebastianelli is Past District Governor Fran Stepkovitch.

Sebastianelli was also presented with the International President’s Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of distinguished achievements in fulfilling the mission of Lions Clubs International.

The award was presented to him by International Director Gary Brown and District Governor Cathy Metschulat.

45th Year for Annual Elite Bunny Hunt

The Dunmore Lions and Rotary Clubs, Dunmore Police and Fire Departments once again combined efforts to hold the annual Elite Bunny Hunt on Saturday, April 16, at St. Anthony’s Playground and Fieldhouse.

The event is in its 45th year of service to the children of Dunmore and surrounding areas. Over 750 Easter bags featuring large and small chocolate bunnies and an assortment of candy eggs were distributed. There were Easter basket raffles and photos with the Easter bunny for children 11 and younger.

Additionally, a fundraiser was held during the event in order to donate to the war effort in Ukraine.
