Romaine Naro, of Dunmore, died peacefully Friday morning at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, Scranton.

Ronnie (as friends knew her) was born in Buffalo, NY, under miraculous circumstances. She was the daughter of the late Mary Evancho. She was a devout Catholic and a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore and participated as an officer and member in numerous church organizations including being the current president of the 50 Plus Club and a member of the MAC Club. Besides being a quintessential mother and homemaker, Ronnie worked in several other capacities — being a private-duty nurse was her favorite. Ronnie’s love for travel and her impeccable taste in fashion were reflected in the many places she visited (often with her dear departed sister-in-law Lorraine) and the clothes she wore. She was an avid audiophile and often showed her sons up with her eclectic taste in music, especially jazz.

Romaine is survived by her loving husband, Vincent Naro, with whom she recently celebrated their 65^th wedding anniversary in September. Ronnie, herself, had survived the adventures of her three sons – Brian, Gerard (Jerry), and Scott, who managed to take their mother into the deepest canyons of Utah and ascend some of the highest mountains of their longtime adopted state of Colorado. Ronnie is also survived by her two dear goddaughters, Mary Ellen Jennison of Endwell, NY, and Brenda Borys of Greenfield Twp., PA — they both lovingly supported their Aunt Ronnie when her sons could not be there. Ronnie had many other nieces and nephews — all of whom she was very fond. She also had an infinite number of friends — several of whom were quite special to her.

Ronnie’s surviving family thanks all who have helped in caring for her and her husband in these recent times — you know who you are. With sincere gratitude from us, may you all be blessed — for you have blessed us all with your help.

Family and friends are invited to a Catholic Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated on Saturday, February 20^th, at 11 a.m., in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., Dunmore. Everyone attending will please follow current safety guidelines: wearing a mask over both your nose and mouth and practicing social distancing. Those unable to attend the mass are invited to livestream the funeral via the funeral home Facebook page.

There will be an additional remembrance and celebration of Ronnie’s life, which is planned for late summer 2021.

Remembering Jacqueline Saunders

Jacqueline Saunders, 58, of Scranton passed away suddenly at home early Sunday evening.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of Carol Palevich Saunders of Scranton and the late Jack Saunders.

A dedicated mother and grandmother, Jacque could be found most mornings at home surrounded by the laughter and controlled chaos of the many small children entrusted to her care. Jacque was a motherly figure to many throughout the course of her life.

Jacqueline’s generosity, wisdom, and willingness to support and guide her friends & family through life’s many challenges will be greatly missed by all those fortunate enough to know her.

She is survived her son Daniel Saunders, Phoenixville, PA and a daughter Baylee Saunders, Dickson City, her brother Christian Saunders and his wife Stefanie, Scranton, as well as her partner of nearly 30 years Mark Comstock of Scranton and his sons Kyle and Sean. Jacque leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and a lifelong friend in Patti Dolak.

She was preceded in death by two brothers Trevor and Jay Saunders.

A private visitation and Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday in St. Clare’s Church in Scranton. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to PanCan 1500 Rosencrans Ave. Ste. 200 Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.

Remembering Irwin M. Gordon

Irwin M. Gordon, 79, Dunmore and formerly of Rochester, NY died Sunday morning in the Regional Hospital of Scranton. He and his wife the former Pamela Scartelli had been married for 50 years.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia he was the son of the late Harry and Dorothy Sadofsky Gordon. Irwin served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and had been employed at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY for over 30 years.

A loving and compassionate husband, father, and Papa, Irwin treasured spending tome with his family especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a family man who was an excellent story and joke teller.

His family wishes to express their sincerest thanks and appreciation for the love and care shown to Irwin by the nurses and staff at the Gino Merli Veteran Center during his stay with them the past five years as well as the nurses and staff at Regional Hospital of Scranton.

Also surviving are a son David and his wife Leah, Franklin, TN, two daughters, Julie Gordon, Rochester, NY, and Stacey York and her husband Joshua, Cleveland, TN, a sister, Joanne Gordon and her husband Gordy, Marrieta, CA, two brothers, Max Gordon and his wife Vicki, Las Vegas, NV, and Michael Gordon and his wife Michelle, Wildomar, CA, eight grandchildren, Matthew, Hannah, and Christopher Gordon, Buffalo, NY, Elijah and Anyah Appleberry, Rochester, NY, Samuel and Eli York, Cleveland, TN, and Benjamin Gordon, Franklin, TN, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service with full military honors will be held Thursday at 6PM in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore. Social distancing guidelines will be observed and mandatory for attendance.
