Philomena Errico

Philomena Errico, 88, Dunmore, went Monday evening to see the person she prayed to every day – that person is Jesus. She was the wife of the late Canio Errico who died in 2008.
Born in Dunmore, daughter of late Michaelangelo & Antonetta D’Ambrosio Castellano, two people she loved so much. She was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1949 and a lifelong devoted member of SS. Anthony & Rocco Parish and its Altar & Rosary Society in Dunmore, as well as a member of the Cursillo Movement. Her big moment in life came in 1995 when she was chosen Chairperson for the Procession of the Saints at St. Rocco’s Church during Rev. Anthony Tombasco’s time as pastor, and she was so pleased that she was able to secure Auxiliary Bishop John Dougherty to walk in the procession.
Philomena was very devoted to the Brown Scapular and the Rosary. She had lost her voice in 1979 and received a miracle that same year in St. George’s Church as she promised St. Theresa if the Blessed Mother could tell Jesus to bless her so she could speak again and she promised to give out the scapulars to those in need. She has thus given out over 20,000 of them. She has experienced two miracles for her in her life, the aforementioned in 1979 as well as one in 2010 at Queen of Apostle Church in Avoca. In addition, she was witness to many other miracles for friends she prayed for. She enjoyed visiting Queen of Apostles Church on first Fridays where meeting Rev. Phil Sladicka helped her to get closer to Jesus.
Prior to retirement she worked at Leslie Fay and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
Surviving is a sister Mary Mack and her husband James, Dunmore, a sister-in-law Catherine Alu, a brother-in-law John Errico and his wife Mary Ellen, all of Dunmore, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews whom she loved and cared for deeply.
She was preceded in death by a sister Rose Pittelli, and two brothers, Anthony and Vito Castellano.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday March 27th at 9:30AM in the St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., in Dunmore. All those attending the mass are required to follow current safety guidelines in respect to wearing a mask and social distancing.
Private interment to follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
