Greater Scranton YMCA announces Inaugural Teen Self-Help Fair

Teens today are facing issues that no other generation has ever faced before, and many are struggling to find ways to cope. The Greater Scranton YMCA’s Inaugural Teen Self-Help Fair will bring teens of all walks of life together to address some of these issues in a safe, nurturing environment.

We are inviting preteens and teens ages 12-17 throughout Lackawanna County to join us for an afternoon and evening where they can come together to hear speakers share their experience, strength and hope on issues such as: depression, bullying/cyber-bullying, self-harm/suicide, addiction, social media, issues at home and more.

The event will run from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Greater Scranton YMCA, located at 706 N. Blakely Street in Dunmore. A dinner and dance will then begin at 5 p.m. Music and entertainment will include EJ the DJ Karaoke and a photo booth. The event is free to attend.

Scranton Cultural Center to hold auditions for “Disney’s High School Musical Jr.”

Michelle Conaboy, Camille Reinecke and Kelley Dougherty will be working on the upcoming Creative and Performing Arts Academy’s production of “Disney’s High School Musical, Jr.”

Camille Reineke of Dunmore has announced open auditions for the Creative and Performing Arts Academy’s production of “Disney’s High School Musical Jr.” at Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple. Auditions for the production will be held at 6 p.m. on Oct. 4 and 5 and are open to those in grades four through 12.

“I am thrilled to be directing this show, “said Camille, arts and education outreach manager. “Our last production of “Willy Wonka” was a huge success, and I’m proud to have the opportunity to direct such a great group of kids as well as work with our talented creative team.”

The rehearsal and performance opportunity is another element of the SCC CaPAA program. The focus is to provide educational and enjoyable experiences for young performers, as well as give everyone a chance to perform on stage in a facility that has over 80 years of history in presenting live theatrical events. Tuition for the class is $300, which includes a $25 non-refundable registration fee. A limited number of needs-based scholarships are available. Camille Reinecke will serve as director for the production with Michele Conaboy as musical director and Kelley Dougherty as choreographer. Performances will be at 7 p.m. on Nov. 19 and 20 and at 11 a.m. on Nov. 21.
