Friends of the Poor planning Home Goods Shower for May 19th

Friends – our “Furnished by Friends” program is hosting a Home Goods Shower!

“Friends of the Poor’s Furnished by Friends program consists of both a Furniture Bank and Home Goods Store. Through this program, we are honored to serve those who are starting over after life changing events and need something/everything (i.e. domestic violence survivors, fire survivors, refugees, etc.). Home Goods is set up like a store and contains household items including, but not limited to: bedding, pillows, towels, shower curtains, dishes, pots and pans, coffee pots, pillows, microwaves and more.”

Due to the rising costs of living, and the ever-increasing number of individuals and families seeking our services, we are in need of more household items than ever before.

We invite you to join us in continuing our fight against poverty by supporting this new community event!

Our Home Goods Shower will take place on Sunday, May 19th, 2024, from 1:00PM – 3:00PM at La Buona Vita. Light refreshments will be served.

Tickets are $25 per person, and can be purchased on our website, Venmo, or at the door!

UNICO Updates: Volunteering at St. Francis Kitchen, Italian Heritage Meeting

From left are Keystone UNICO Volunteers Diane Beckage, Mary Lou Karliak, Cathy Gerard, Tina Haas, and Michele McDade.

Keystone UNICO members volunteered and donated to Saint Francis Kitchen as part of their Service Day activities. Chapter Members helped to prepare food for one of the many dinners served to those in need of a “Hand Up.”  Afterwards they were given the opportunity to help in the serving of that day’s meal.

The kitchen is a full-service venue that has been recently upgraded and serves a full-course meal every day at noon and a second meal is served on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Donations are welcome throughout the year and can be made payable to and mailed to Saint Francis Kitchen at 500 Penn Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509.

Dunmore’s Keystone Chapter UNICO conducted its annual Italian Heritage and Culture meeting at Arcaro and Genell Restaurant.  President Nanine Gramigna introduced the evening’s presenters, which included wine tasting with Sal Maiolatesi of Maiolatesi Wine Cellars and an olive oil/balsamic vinegar presentation by Thirteen Olives with Gene Litz.  The presentations were followed by the yearly election of Officers and Board Members conducted by Nominations Chairman Peter Noto.
