Event celebrates anniversary of Kosciuska Healing Garden

Lackawanna Valley Conservancy (LVC), the Lackawanna River Conservation Association (LRCA), Dr. Carol Gargan and volunteers celebrated the 10th Anniversary Solstice Celebration of the Kosciuska Healing Garden with a fund-raising party at Stirna’s Restaurant.

Richard and Marie Laske were honored for their many years of volunteering and being stewards of the Lackawanna River Watershed.  The Kosciuska Healing Garden is located off West Market Street in the Providence Section of Scranton.  The Providence Reach Preserve, LVC property, has been the home of this garden for 10 years.

Commission for Women sponsors Gluten Seminar

The Lackawanna County Commission for Women recently sponsored a Health Seminar entitled “The Gluten Story” held at La Bona Vita in Dunmore.

The seminar addressed the prevalence of gluten intolerance in the general population and the dietary restrictions that are mandatory for managing this disorder. The seminar is playing on ECTV.

Local pilgrims travel to celebrate”World Youth Day”

Pilgrims from the Diocese of Scranton, led by Bishop Joseph C. Bambera,  gathered at the Diocesan Pastoral Center recently for their departure to Krakow, Poland for World Youth Day 2016 with Pope Francis.

The pilgrimage has consisted of catechesis, evening cultural events, Stations of the Cross with Pope Francis, Eucharistic Adoration, speakers, confession, and a Closing Mass with Pope Francis. In addition, pilgrims experienced some of the most moving religious sites in the world, such as the origins of Saint Faustina, Saint John Paul II, and Saint Maximilian Kolbe in Niepokalanow.

Mass will be also be celebrated in Czestochowa in front of the Black Madonna icon. The Diocesan delegation will return Aug. 3.
