The Greater Scranton YMCA will host on Friday, Sept. 20, the Inaugural Harry McGrath Memorial Golf Tournament & Dinner Celebration. The tournament will be held at Glen Oak Country Club, Clarks Summit, and will begin at 1:30 p.m. (registration beginning at 10:00 a.m.).
Harry McGrath was a proud member of the Greater Scranton YMCA. He specialized in education law, advocating for the rights of all students, particularly those with special needs. It became his passion to improve the quality of education for children living in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Proceeds from the tournament will fund the Y’s Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program, a six-week program serving rising first and second grade students who are struggling with reading at the Mid Valley School District.
“Our dad worked tirelessly so that children in our area had the necessary tools to succeed in school,” said Betsy McGrath Ardizoni, Greater Scranton YMCA board member, golf tournament committee member and daughter of the late Harry McGrath.
“The Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program is consistent with his goal of using his legal career to positively impact the lives of the children he was privileged to represent. My family is humbled and grateful to honor his legacy through a program he would undoubtedly support.”
Following the completion of the golf tournament, a dinner celebration will begin with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Black Tie Stereo.
