Actors Circle to Host Auditions for Upcoming Production of “Lombardi”

actorsActors Circle has set auditions for Lombardi, by Eric Simonson, a play based on the book When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vince Lombardi by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Maraniss.

Auditions will be held on Monday, Aug. 19, and Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Providence Playhouse, 1256 Providence Rd., Scranton.  

Needed are actors to fit the real-life personalities of Vince Lombardi, his wife; three of his team players on the Green Bay Packers, and a reporter. Bring a resume and conflict information for rehearsal times set between late August up to and including show dates scheduled for Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 24 – Nov. 3.

Needed are a man and woman in their 50s (the Lombardi’s), four adults in their 20 – 30s (including an African American) to portray football players: Jim Taylor, Paul Hornung , Dave Robinson, and reporter Michael McCormick.  

Lombardi was a five-time NFL champion and two-time Super Bowl champion, and the man behind the Green Bay Packers legend. The play follows a LOOK magazine reporter through a week of the Packers 1965 season, as he discover’s the coach’s passions and relationships on and off the field with his players, the press, and his wife, Marie.

Sport produces great human drama, and there is no sports icon greater to bring to life than Hall of Fame football coach Vince Lombardi, who was unquestionably one of the most inspirational and quotable personalities in athletics. Even though football’s Super Bowl trophy is named for him, few know the real story of Lombardi or his quest for perfection or ability to inspire people to achieve what they never thought possible.
