State Rep. Kevin Haggerty says $611,449 in state funding has been approved to help support a variety of community projects in the region courtesy of the state’s casino gaming law, which directs a portion of revenue to counties that host casinos.
Among the projects is renovation of the Little League park complex in Dunmore, which received $100,000 in funding.
Other projects include:
- $14,200 for the Friends of Connors Park Association to aid in purchasing a storage shed and other equipment in Scranton
- $39,000 for the Ambrose Revels American Legion No. 328 for facility repairs in Archbald Borough
- $48,729 for building improvements to the Jessup American Legion Post No. 411
- $28,295 to the Cougar Kickoff Club to be used for locker room renovations in Blakely Borough
- $10,000 for a new fire alarm and sprinkler system at the United Community Outreach Helping Hands Food Pantry in Blakely Borough
- $120,000 for the creation of a women’s business incubator and administrative offices in South Scranton
- $36,225 for facility plumbing improvements at the American Legion No. 327 in Olyphant
- $25,000 for renovations to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Northeastern Pennsylvania in Scranton
- $30,000 to Throop Borough for assistance with the Pearl Street Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project
- $160,000 for the Peggy Drive Reconstruction Project in Archbald Borough.
The Local Share Account funds from casinos located in host or contiguous counties are distributed by the Department of Community and Economic Development within Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration and are designed to help economic development, job training, community improvement and public interest projects.
