Lackawanna County is seeking visual and performing artists who enjoy working with children ages 4-12 to be a part of our Art in the Park program this summer.
This year’s schedule is as follows: Tuesday, July 5, Merli Sarnoski Park, Greenfield Township; Tuesday, July 12, Covington Park, Covington Township; Tuesday, July 19, McDade Park, Scranton, and Tuesday, July 26, Aylesworth Park, Jermyn. All sessions are 10 a.m. to noon.
The program takes place outside under a pavilion and/or tent. Each visual artist will have his/her own picnic table. Performing artists can stroll or station themselves in the grassy areas. The activities that work best are “come-and-go” immediate hands-on interactive activities that are fun and interesting.
Children’s ages range from 4 – 12 with the average age being eight. The children do not register ahead of time, but on average approximately 125-150 children are at each park. Artists are expected to arrive at least 30 minutes in advance and tables are at a first come, first served basis.
If you have worked at Art in the Park in the past and have done the same activity two years in a row, the Arts & Culture Department asks that a new activity be prepared/offered.
The rate of pay is $175 per day for Performing Artists and $200 per day for Visual Artists/Table Artists (who must purchase his/her own supplies).
Proposals are reviewed by the Art in the Park committee. Selected individuals will receive a letter with instructions and a call from an Art in the Park Committee member by late May.
Applications for the Art in the Park are on the County’s web site at www.lackawannacounty.org/index.php/call-for-art-in-the-park-artists-form.
