Former Scranton Mayor and Wife to Star in “Love Letters”

Former Scranton Mayor Jimmy Connors and his wife, Susan, will present A. R. Gurney’s “Love Letters” at Providence Playhouse, 1256 Providence Rd., Scranton.

This is a fundraiser event to help defray Actors Circle’s ongoing house maintenance costs and for a special contribution to Erin Jessica Moreken Drug and Alcohol Treatment Fund.

The show will be presented Saturday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 13 at 1:30 p.m.. There will be a contribution box at the theater for anyone who would like to contribute extra to Erin’s Fund.

Actors Circle Presents “My Three Angels”

Actors Circle will present My Three Angels by Samuel and Bella Spewack this month at Providence Playhouse, 1256 Providence Road, Scranton.

Directed by Cathy Rist Strauch, the show will be presented  on January 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22 and 23. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m., with Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 general; $10 senior citizens; $8 students. 

On Jan.13, tickets are $8 general and seniors, $6 for students. Following CDC and Lackawanna County Emergency guidelines, masks are required for this event.  

Members of the cast include: John Bubul, Tony Thomas, Casey Thomas, Jeff Ginsberg, Katie VonBergen, Emma Ross, Jennifer Frey Abdalla, Matt Merolla, Susan Parrick, and Peter Miles. 

Based on La Cuisine Des Anges by Albert Husson, the plot involves three convicts who are employed as roofers by a family. The trio sets out to help that family in a special way, and in doing so, redeem themselves as real life angels to the grateful family.

Actors Circle board of directors has announced their upcoming 40th Season.

Members of the board include: founder Lou Bisignani, president Mark Fryer, vice president Linda C. Griffiths, secretary Cathy Rist Strauch, treasurer Harry Adelman, Dr. Robert Spalletta, Dr. John McInerney, JP McGowan, Jeannine McGowan, Jeff Ginsberg, Bernie Ott, David A. Smith, Kate Martin, and Marnie Azzarelli. 

The season includes several comedies and a classic drama. In order, the six plays include:Deathtrap, by Ira Levin; 4 Weddings and an Elvis, by Nancy Frick; My Three Angels by Samuel and Bella Spewack, The Dining Room by A.R. Gurney; Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling; and His Girl, Friday, written by Bob Spalletta as an adaptation of the original movie, written by Charles Lederer and Ben Hecht.

The first show, the comedic thriller Deathtrap, is being presented Oct. 7, 8, 9,and 10, with Casey Thomas as director. Cathy Rist Strauch and Jeff Ginsberg are producers. Art Walsh is set designer/builder with Casey Thomas. Cast members are: Joe Palumbo, Kelly Ann Walsh, Eric Lutz, Jennifer Frey Abdalla, and Scott Rave.
