Little Sisters of the Poor Celebrate 60th Jubilee

Little Sisters of the Poor Sister Alice, l.s.p., and Sister Marie Therese, l.s.p., both celebrated their 60th Jubilee of Perpetual Vows on Dec. 11. The Little Sisters marked the occasion with a Mass in the chapel of Holy Family Residence celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Sica, senior priest at Immaculate Conception Parish, Scranton.

The Little Sisters, who have been serving the elderly of Northeastern Pennsylvania since 1908, work closely with staff, volunteers, and benefactors to create a family spirit for the residents who make their home with them. They welcome the elderly who have limited funds and provide for their needs so they can thrive in an atmosphere of respect, dignity, and love.

Little Sisters of the Poor plan Annual Autumn Roast Beef Dinner

The Little Sisters of the Poor will have their annual autumn roast beef dinner from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, in the auditorium of Holy Family Residence, 2500 Adams Ave., Scranton, located adjacent to Marywood University. All proceeds will be used to cover the expenses of a new bus for the residents of Holy Family Residence.

The dinner, which will be catered courtesy of Stirna’s Restaurant, includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, carrots, rolls and butter, assorted pies and beverages. Takeouts will be available too. Tickets for adults are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Tickets for children 10 and younger are $6. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling (570) 343-4065 or online.

In addition to the dinner, there will be a bake sale which will include the Sisters’ famous homemade scones and an assortment of other baked goods. There will also be raffles for gift baskets and gift certificates for area restaurants and businesses as well as a 50/50 raffle.

The Little Sisters also have numerous dinner sponsorship packages available which are great advertising vehicles for businesses as well as a way to honor or remember a loved one.

Cards for Charity benefits Little Sisters of the Poor

Cards for Charity recently raised $2,600 for the Little Sisters of the Poor at Holy Family Residence during the organization’s annual card party at Elmhurst Country Club. The event included a luncheon followed by an afternoon of bridge, mah jong, pinochle, and dominoes along with a basket raffle.

The Little Sisters also sold their famous scones and cookies. All proceeds will be used to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual health services to the residents.
