Granteeds, a beloved local eatery in the surrounding Dunmore area, has been serving delicious food since the 1970s. Fast forward to 2024, I was able to sit down with Gina & Giuseppe Cicco, the current owners of Granteeds, who were able to tell me a little bit more about the expansive history of the restaurant. Known for its mouth-watering Italian Hoagies, Chicken Parm Hoagies, and New York-style pizzas, this family-run establishment has been a cornerstone of the community.
Granteeds was originally founded in the 1970s and was acquired by Gino Cicco, Gina and Giuseppe’s father, in the 1980s as the third owner. The original location faced an unexpected challenge when the lease was not renewed due to the landlord’s desire for his son to start a pizzeria there. Undeterred by this setback, Gino made the decision to relocate the business a block and a half down the road to 817 Mulberry St, Scranton, PA 18510 in the 1990s, where it thrives today. In 2018 Gina & Giuseppe took over the business and have been running it ever since.
Granteeds is deeply involved in community activities, regularly donating to charity events organized by the universities of our local area. From sponsoring local sports teams to participating in neighborhood fairs, Granteeds is committed to giving back to the community that has supported it for decades.
I asked Giuseppe what some highlights of taking over the family business are, to which he shares,
“Running a family business has taught us the importance of responsibility, customer service, and maintaining healthy relationships with employees and vendors. Our advice to future business owners is to stay consistent and reliable, ensuring customers know what to expect every day.”
The community has loved and supported Granteeds for many years, and the Cicco family plans to continue being a staple.
“Looking ahead, we hope to expand our reach within the community and continue to be a trusted place for delicious meals. We aim to uphold the legacy of quality and service that our family has built over the years.” says Giuseppe.
