Ballet Theatre of Scranton to Present “Cinderella”

Ballet Theatre of Scranton senior company will present the classic spell-binding fairytale, “Cinderella,”on Saturday, May 4, at 20 and 7:30 p.m. at the Theater at North.

Preprare to be enchanted as Artistic Director Joanne Arduino and her company present this full length rags-to-riches story ballet .  

Leading the cast of over 50 regional dancers are Selena Knowlton as Cinderella and Jose Hurtado as the Prince.  

Both dancers are students at The Rock School for Dance Education in Philadelphia.

Ms. Knowlton is a high school senior and trained at and is a member of Ballet Theatre of Scranton.  

Elizabeth Conway , a BTOS alumna, will dance the role of the Fairy Godmother.

The technical staff includes Emmy award winning lighting designer and Scranton native, Dennis M. Size.

The production is based on the Bolshoi ballet production and was originally staged by internationally-known master, Henry Danton in 1994 for BTOS, when Karen Keeler starred as Cinderella.  

Ms. Keeler is currently the Creative Director for The Rockettes in New York City.

In 2011, Mrs. Arduino restaged the production and will do so again this year, with a new generation of dancers.

Complete with beautiful scenery and costumes and a life-size pumpkin coach, the production is sure to be magical for young and old alike!

Ballet Theatre of Scranton Marks 60th Year with Anniversary Production

Ballet TheatreBallet Theatre of Scranton will celebrate its 60th anniversary with their production of “Jewels” on Saturday, April 28, at 7:30 pm at The Theater at North. Under the Artistic Direction of Joanne Arduino, excerpts from ballets performed in the company’s history will include Romeo and Juliet, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, Phantom of the Opera, Moulin Rouge, Tales of Beatrix Potter and Dracula.

Guest professional alumni will join the Ballet Theatre senior company dancers and include Karen Keeler, Theo Lencicki, Jennifer Cadden, Colin Bolthouse and Matt Lynady. These NEPA alumni have performed at the Metropolitan Opera and Radio City Music Hall in NYC and have credits that include National Broadway tours.

Christian Zimmermann (formerly of Boston Ballet) and Giovanni Ravelo (of Ballet Trockadero de Monte Carlo) are professional dancers who performed with BTOS in the past and will also make guest appearances. The Scottish Reel from La Sylphide will be performed in tribute to the company’s late founder Constance Reynolds.

Dunmoreans to Star in Annual Nutcracker Ballet


Ballet Theatre of Scranton and Marywood University will present the 42nd annual free performances of The Nutcracker Dec. 26, 27 and 28th at the Marywood Sette LaVerghetta Theater at 2 and 7:30 p.m. each day.

General public free tickets are available two hours prior to the specific performance at the Marywood box office.
