Simrell Dentistry Joins Horizen Dental Care

Dr. John Evanish III, President and CEO, Horizon Dental Care, recently announced that Thomas Simrell Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, 514 North Blakely St., Dunmore, is joining Horizon Dental Care. 

Thomas Simrell, DMD, MAGD isl seeing his patients at Horizon Dental Care, located at the Guild Building, 400 Wyoming Ave., Scranton since May 3. John Evanish, who has been serving dental patients in Northeastern PA since 1993.  He currently has four full-service offices in Hawley, Honesdale, Scranton, and Stroudsburg.

Hospice of the Sacred Heart Among State Grant Recipients

State Rep. Kyle Mullins, D-Lackawanna, has announced state funding totaling over $1 million has been awarded to benefit over a dozen community and economic development projects that will benefit residents of the 112thLegislative District. The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority through the Monroe County Local Share Account program. 

“Municipal governments and local organizations depend on grant programs like this to ensure a strong local economy and to keep our communities safe for residents and visitors,” Mullins said. “I am proud to work alongside my local legislative colleagues in our tireless work to secure critical funding for our area. I would like to thank state Sen.-elect Marty Flynn, D-Lackawanna, and my House colleagues state Reps. Mike Carroll, D-Luzerne/Lackawanna, and Bridget M. Kosierowski, D-Lackawanna, for their support of these worthy projects.”  

The grants include $30,000 for the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore to renovate and revitalize the inpatient unit. 

Other organizations receiving grants include the Women’s Resource Center; VFW Theodore Winter Post #25; Scranton City Emergency Services Center; Everhart Museum, Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple; Archbald Borough for acquire land for a new municipal building; Jessup Hose Company, Scranton Lackawanna Industrial Building Company; Ronald McDonald House Neighborhood Initiative; South Scranton Little League; 

Connell Park Little League, and monies toward the development of a Pre-Kindergarten Center of Excellence by the Scranton Lackawanna Human Development Agency. The prospective center at the Holy Rosary School will provide educational and daycare services for children of low-income area families. 

The Local Share Account funds from casinos located in host or contiguous counties are distributed by the Department of Community and Economic Development and are designed to support economic development, job training, community improvement and public interest projects.  

FNCB Donated $5,000 to Allied Vocational Services

FNCB Bank presented a $5,000 donation to the Vocational Services Division of Allied Services. FNCB will serve as co-presenting sponsors of Allied Services 2021 Vocational Services Golf Classic at Glenmaura National Golf Club, Moosic. Shown at the presentation are, from left: James F. FNCB Bank announced its support for Allied Services with a $5,000 donation to the Vocational Services Division. FNCB will serve as co-presenting sponsors of Allied Services 2021 Vocational Services Golf Classic. The charity tournament is scheduled for Monday, July 12, at Glenmaura National Golf Club,  Moosic.  

Now in its 28th year, the tournament benefits individuals with disabilities participating in training and employment programs provided by the non-profit health system. Allied Services Vocational Services Division serves over 500 individuals with disabilities each year. Individuals with disabilities enrolled in the program receive specialized training, development of work-related skills, and supervision and guidance in the workplace as needed. The goal of the program is to support and empower individuals with disabilities as members of the workforce.
