Ann Marie Summa Mecca, 78, of Dunmore, died Monday at Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton. She and her high school sweetheart Charles J. Mecca celebrated 54 years of marriage on May 17th. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Concetta Vaccaro Summa and was a 1963 graduate of Dunmore High School and was IBM certified. She served as the executive secretary for Summa & Iezzi Construction for 55 years. She was a member of SS Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore and was very dedicated to her daily prayer hour. 

Ann Marie was a loving and kind-hearted person to whoever she came in contact with in life. She especially loved her family with a passion and was very devoted to them. If you met her, you would love her. She enjoyed watching her great nieces Rachael and Ava Walsh playing softball and basketball and enjoyed taking her daily walks and had a special love for her dogs, Rex, Chips and Sidney.

Also surviving is a brother, Vincent Summa and wife Rosemary, Dunmore. Nieces and nephews, John Summa and wife Gloria, Linda Lacertoso and husband Tony, Frank Summa, Dave Summa and wife Cathy, Mark Summa and wife Caterina, Paul Summa and wife Maria, Vince Summa, John Summa, Lori Weber and husband Mike, Michelle Walsh and husband Kevin. Great nieces and great nephews, Dr. Jennifer Price and husband Jack, Frank Summa and wife Lauren, Stephanie Stone and husband Joe, Sarah, Michael and Joseph Weber, Nico, Franco, Deanna, Chloe, David, Teddy, Mia and Antonia Summa, Rachel and Ava Walsh. Several great-great nieces and nephews and a cousin Ann Summa.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Summa and wife Deanna. 

The funeral will be Thursday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St. Dunmore with a Mass of Christian Burial in 11am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St. Dunmore. Interment, St. Michael’s Cemetery, Dunmore. Family and friends may call today from 4-7pm at the funeral home.

Remembering Theresa M. Sabato

Theresa M. Sabato, 93, Dunmore, died early Monday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit in Dunmore.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Peter A. Sabato, Sr., on April 15, 2016.

Born in Old Forge, daughter of the late Arthur M. and Pauline Laurenzi Paulino, she attended Old Forge public school and was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish as well as its Altar and Rosary Society in Dunmore.  She and her late husband owned and operated Sacks Taylor Shop, Dunmore for many years, and it is now in it’s third generation of family operation. Theresa enjoyed crocheting, traveling, and baking, but above all, she cherished being with family and loved spending time with them at all of their functions.

Surviving is a daughter, Patricia Irwin and husband Robert, Slatington, PA; sons Peter A. Sabato, Jr. and wife Kathleen, Olyphant; Richard A. Sabato and wife Sandra, Dunmore; Arthur W. Sabato and husband Frank Militi, Washington, D.C.; grandchildren Christopher Sabato, Mark Sabato and wife Jessica, Rick Sabato and wife Jess, Corey Sabato, Matthew Irwin and partner Kimberly Scneder, and Stephen Irwin; great-grandchildren Victoria, Grayson, Isabel Rose, and Mia Marie; her sister Sylvia Balducci and husband Fran, Scranton; sister-in-law Angela Paulino, FL; nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

The family would like to thank her visiting angels; Debbie, Carol, Tammy, Brittany and Roseann and her weekend aides, Shalonda and Paula for all of their support, care and love shown to Theresa. Also, a special thank you to the staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for all of their care and support. She was also preceded in death by her sister Cynthia Favata; and brothers Arthur Paulino and Gilbert Paulino.

The funeral will be Saturday with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., Dunmore.  All those attending the mass are asked to go directly to the church that morning.  Interment to follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore.

Remembering Helen Sagan

Helen Sagan, 87, Dunmore, died Monday at Regional Hospital of Scranton.  She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Thomas F. Sagan.Born in Springville, PA, Helen was the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella Kowalczyk Kuprel. Prior to retirement, she had been employed by Cleanrite/Spotless Cleaners in Dunmore. Also surviving are daughters Diane Sagan Brown and Donna Sagan; granddaughters Lauren and Erica Brown; nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by son-in-law, David M. Brown.Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, baking everyone’s favorite desserts, traveling to see friends and family, visiting casinos, and completing puzzles.  She will be greatly missed.
