Dunmore junior Brady McCormick stepped into the starting quarterback role this season emerging as a strong leader.

And he is a major reason Dunmore won its first five football games, often obliterating opponents.

Son of Laurie and Shawn McCormick, Dunmore, Brady fired a 25-yard touchdown pass to prime target Jacob Costanzo in the Bucks 56-6 win over Susquehanna on Saturday, September 26.

At press time he had recorded 10 touchdown passes and thrown only one interception while totaling over 600 yards passing.

“I think the success of this team is due to our great defense led by defensive coaches Mike Barrett and Cameron Young,” said Brady.

“Our defense has been incredible. Our defense keeps the opposition’s offense off the field and gives us the football. They have been doing that all year, giving us plenty of opportunities to score.

“It’s because of our defense that we have a big point differential in our favor.”

Brady, well-spoken and polite, is a member of the Bowling Club and Spanish Club at Dunmore. He is junior class treasurer and also plays on the tennis team.

The junior scholar-athlete has a 3.6 academic average. His best academic subject is history.

Brady, humble and hard-working,, said assistant coach Jack Dempsey is a big reason for his easy transition to starting quarterback. “He is great with play calling and putting in audibles. He has great ability in reading defenses.”

The junior stalwart signal caller said he has learned a lot from Dunmore veteran head football coach Kevin McHale. “He really teaches us to be a good person. At Dunmore it’s all about being a good person in life. It’s all life lessons.”

Brady said his parents also teach him a lot about life. “They are the best influences in my life. They tell me to be confident. Be the best leader in my life. Be humble.”

Brady said he would like to play college football and study architecture when that time comes. He is thinking about attending college in the coastal Carolinas or possibly Penn State.

Intelligent and confident, Brady talked out what it takes to excel at the quarterback position.

“It’s really all about your mind set,” he said. “It’s not just about athletic ability. You need to be smart, a hard worker, and be a leader. “Leadership qualities factor in maybe the most.”

Brady is very positive when he talks about the team goals. “We expect to keep winning every game and make a strong run at the state title. We want to win the state title this year.

“We are building off of last season when we lost the district title game. We worked extremely hard in the off-season and came back stronger and faster.

“We are better and even more focused. Our fans are excited for us. They can see us making a strong run. We see it too.”

Well-versed and talented, Brady enjoys music and would like to see Morgan Wallen in concert. He is a big fan of the late Michael Jackson’s music.

Brady loves playing for Dunmore and is very aware of its history.

“Dunmore is amazing,” he said. “It’s a storied town. I have known these guys since kindergarten. We know each other well.

“Dunmore is all about tradition. It’s an old school place.

“It’s an honor to go to school here.”
