Mother’s Day tea

The Catherine McAuley Center will host a Mother’s Day Tea Party on Saturday, May 3, from noon to 2 p,.m.to celebrate mothers and other women in our lives. This event is open to the community and will be held at 541 Wyoming Ave., Scranton (formerly The Space at Olive).. Refreshments, finger sandwiches, and dessert will be served. Tickets are $25 for this event and include one adult and up to four children, 18 years old and younger.

In addition to the tea party fare, there will be children’s activities, a photographer taking family photos, door prizes and raffles, and a Character Meet and Greet. The Center’s mobile Little Library and Period Project will be set-up.

There are sponsorship, donation, and volunteer opportunities still available. Casino bus trip

AARP NEPA/Scranton Chapter #3731 will host a bus trip to Wind Creek Casino, Bethlehem, on Saturday, April 26. The trip is open to the public. The casino houses over 3,000 slot machines and 150 table games. You can shop the outlets or eat at the large food court or restaurants onsite. There is a $25 rebate for free slot play. Boarding is at Staples, Viewmont Drive at 9 a.m. and the bus will leave the casino at 4:30 pm. Payment of $40 due with reservation. Call Marie at (570) 903-4433 or David at (570)-892-1619. 

Pierogi sale

The 8th Annual Homemade Pierogi Sale is taking place at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 220 Church Street, Moscow, now through April 11. Available are potato cheese or cabbage pierogi for $11 for a baker’s dozen. Haluski (cabbage & noodles) is also available for $9 per quart. Pierogis are sold Monday through Friday from 10 am -2 pm in St. Catherine’s Hall, located in the lower level of the church, and after all weekend Masses. ABBA tribute

MANIA: The ABBA Tribute brings its electrifying performance back to the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre, PA on Sunday, November 2, at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are:  $29.50, $44.50, and $59.50, plus fees. Tickets can be purchased online: kirbycenter.org, and ticketmaster.com or in person at the F.M. Kirby Center box office Monday through Friday from 10 .m. to 5 p.m. or by phone at 570-826-1100.

Candlelight Rock Orchestra

MEGA Events will present The Rock Orchestra by Candlelight on December 7 at 8 p.m.  at the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Theatre, first floor, Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple, with doors opening at 7 o’clock for bar and concessions. Tickets start at $62.80 including fees, with prices subject to change..  The show will feature an epic 90-minute concert in ethereal candlelit settings and audiences will witness the unexpected union of classical music and metal. The Rock Orchestra by Candlelight features top hits from iconic bands like Metallica, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Rage Against The Machine, My Chemical Romance, Linkin’ Park, SOAD, Guns N Roses, Evanescence, Papa Roach, The Cranberries and more.
