Catholic Choral Society Meeting

The Catholic Choral Society will open its 76th season with a Rehearsal–Organizational  Meeting on Tuesday, September 10, at 6:15 p.m. at the IHM Center on the Marywood Campus. New members are welcome. No auditions are necessary. The performance and rehearsal calendar will be distributed at the opening meeting.

The  director of  the Catholic Choral Society is Ann Manganiello, Exeter, and the accompanist is Linda Houck, Kingston. Brenda Grunza, Nicholson, and Lois Ostrowski, Pittston, are co-presidents of the choral group.

Board members assisting the co-presidents in arranging the group’s activities include: Nancy Flannery, Kingston; Sheila O’Brien, Dunmore; Rich Gibbons, Hunlock Creek, Chris  Koster, White Haven; Connie Schulte, Clifford Township; and Kate Conaboy,  Archbald.

Actors Circle play

Actors Circle will present “The Miss Firecracker  Contest” by Beth Henley, at Providence Playhouse, 1256 Providence Rd., Scranton. Show dates are September 26, 27, 28, 29, and October 4, 5, 6, 2. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 7 p.m., with Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 General, $12 Seniors, $10 Students. On Thursday, September 26, all tickets are $10. Directed by Kandis Hill, this boisterous and bold dark comedy takes place as the summer air is beginning to heat up in Brookhaven, a rural town in Mississippi. Residents prepare with excitement for their annual Miss Firecracker Contest, a beauty and talent pageant held every summer on the Fourth of July. Presented through special arrangement with Dramatist Play Service, Inc. Actors Circle is supported in part by a grant from The Lackawanna County for the Arts and Culture.

Marywood fall open house

Marywood University will hold two undergraduate open house events this fall for high school students and their parents. The October Open House is scheduled for Saturday, October 26, and the November Open House is set for Saturday, November 16. Both events will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. 

Registration for each open house begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Fireplace Lounge at the Nazareth Student Center on the University’s campus, and the last campus tour departs at 1:45 p.m. A complimentary continental breakfast and lunch are included in the fall open houses.

The open houses will give prospective students the opportunity to walk through a student services & organizations fair to find out how Marywood students fit in and have fun on campus. 

In addition, students will be able to explore various majors at an academic fair, learn more about the admissions process, visit an academic department of their choice and spend some time with faculty, as well as chat with varsity coaches and tour Marywood’s campus.

Columbus Day dinner

The 116th annual dinner of the Columbus Day Association of Lackawanna County will be held on Sunday, October 13, at Fiorelli’s, Peckville, beginning at 5 p.m. with cocktails and dinner beginning at 6.

Michael Cappellini of Jessup will be honored as Italian American Man of the Year.

Everyone is encouraged to attend the dinner, a highlight of the Columbus Day observance in Lackawanna County. Tickets for the dinner are $65 per person. Call Joe Fazio at (570) 241-1691 concerning the dinner.

Casino bus trip

Division #5 LAOH is running a bus trip to Wind Creek Casino in Bethlehem, on Saturday, September 28. The bus departs St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street, at 10 a.m. and departs from the Casino at 5 p.m. Cost is $35 per person and includes a $25 slot rebate and the driver’s tip. TayTay Dance Party

The TayTay Dance Party featuring The DJ Swiftie is coming to the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, October 10, at 7:30 P.M. as part of the M&T Family Series. Ticket prices are: General Admission, $32.50; VIP Ticket: $50 plus fees includes: one ticket, 30-minute early entry, signed poster, and glowstick. Calling all Swifties for the most epic Taylor-themed event. The all-ages Taylor Swift Laser Party features Tay Tay’s music provided by DJ Swiftie while surrounded by synchronized lasers and lights. Guests will sing and dance to all your favorite Taylor Swift songs for an unforgettable night.

Irish Tenors Concert

The Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple and Magic City Productions will present “The Irish Tenors: A Family Christmas” on November 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the SCC’s Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Theatre.

Comprised of Anthony Kearns, Ronan Tynan and Declan Kelly, The Irish Tenors have been the acknowledged Celtic music kings since they burst upon the scene during a 1998 special. With 10 best-selling CD’s to their credit, they share company with the likes of The Three Tenors and Andrea Bocelli as the biggest money makers PBS has presented. 

The Irish Tenors have performed all over the world, including the best venues in America. They have blazed the trail from coast to coast stopping in nearly every city in between, thrilling audiences at every single stop with their enchanting Irish repertoire, sweeping secular selections and dynamic holiday fare.

“The Irish Tenors: A Family Christmas” will take place in the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Theatre, located on the building’s first floor, with doors opening for bar and concessions at 6:30 p.m.. Tickets start at $46.65.

Church festival

Our Lady of the Abingtons Church under Pastor, Rev. Arbogaste Satoun,will  hold its Annual Fall Festival on Saturday, September 14, and Sunday, September 15, on the beautiful church grounds on 207 Seminary Road,  Dalton. The festival is on Saturday from  5 to 10 p.m.featuring Pork BBQ with music by QBall; and Sunday from Noon to 6 p.m.featuring a Chicken BBQ, with music by The Quietmen. There is free parking and no admission.

Rob Schneider show

Comedian Rob Schneider will perform at the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre on Friday, November 22, at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $45, $55, and $150 plus fees. This show is for mature audiences only, ages 18+.

Rob Schneider is an accomplished actor, comedian, screenwriter and director. A stand-up comic and veteran of the award-winning NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live, Schneider has gone on to a successful career in films and television and continues his world-wide standup tour. 

Daughtry concert 

A concert by  979X Twisted X-Mas starring rock superstar Daughtry at the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts, Wilkes-Barre, is scheduled for  Thursday, December 5, at 7 p.m. with special guests Sleep Theory and Devour the Day. $1 from every ticket will be donated to The Cancer Wellness Center of NEPA. Ticket prices are: $40.50, $50.50, $60.50, $80.50, and $90.50 plus fees. VIP packages are available online only.
