Remembering Mary Angela Celano

Mary Angela “Cheech” Celano, 88, of Dunmore, passed away peacefully on Dec. 4, 2021, surrounded by her family.

Mary was born Nov. 11, 1933, in Scranton to the late Michael and Anna Passarella Celano. She was educated in Dunmore schools and was a 1951 graduate of Dunmore High School. 

Mary held various jobs in the garment industry and retired after 35-plus years from Triple A Trouser Manufacturing Company, Scranton.

She was a loving sister, aunt, and friend, and was an avid New York Yankees fan. In her earlier years, she was an assistant Miss-E League softball coach for the Dunmore Miss-E League team. She will be greatly missed.

Mary is survived by her sisters, Carmella Hair, Greenville, SC, and Ann Atanasoff and husband Burlin of South Abington Twp.; a sister-in-law, Lois Celano, Dunmore, as well as nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Celano; brother-in-law, William Hair; a niece and nephews.

Mary’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and physician assistants of Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, and also Interim Healthcare nurses, therapists, and aides for their excellent care of Mary.

The funeral was held on Dec. 13 from Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Scranton, and entombment at Cathedral Cemetery.
